I have recently become interested in that crazy subgenre called black metal. The bands that I have been most into from this genre are Emperor, Ulver and Anaal Nathrakh. Around winter 2006, I first listen to Ulver's "Nattens Madrigal". Often said to be one of the top 5 black metal albums. It got me thinking, I wouldn't mind making a black metal album myself. Obviously I am not aiming, nor expecting to get anywhere near the top 5 black metal releases. After all I am not from Norway, I won't be wearing corpse paint, I haven't killed anybody and I am pretty sure I am not "TRVE CVLT METALHEAD" enough to pull something like that off (ooh, how controversial) :P
Why no titles I hear you ask. Well I have made all the artwork for this album, I don't want there to be any words in the booklet (except for the album credits on one page). Each track is represented by a single image (available here). The original plan was to have no lyrics. Since you can't understand most black metal lyrics anyway, I thought why not just scream incoherent ramble and cut out the middleman (the middleman, being the lyricist). But if Bryan wants lyrics, then I will make some for him.
I have currently written about 75% of the music, which Jamie Giacomelli has agreed to record and (under)produce with me. Bryan Adair has also agreed to perform vocals.
I am not going all out into the black metal thing. I am very interested in mutliple genres, and wanted to take on black metal on it's own. This is the main reason that it is not going to be listed under my main project, Escape From Reality.
If this album turns out to be more Mayhem than Cradle of Filth then I will be happy!
