Outside is crisp and cold with a warning of snow. I put on my coat and scarf; not forgetting my backpack, I step outside. My boots crunch and crackle beneath me as my breath makes patterns in the air. I walk down past all the houses to the park. There the park bench is covered in ice sickles. I wipe away some of the snow with my scarf before I sit down on the cold bench. I sigh and my breath floats away. A tree creaks under the weight of the snow and there are no birds sing; it's too early in the morning for them to be out yet. The pond is frozen but no one is skating. As I walk to the edge of the pond I reach into my backpack and grab my skates. I put them on and step onto the ice. My breath comes faster as I speed around the pond. I see someone watching me from the park bench; with skates thrown over his shoulder. I continue skating I was kind of hoping that I would that I would have the pond to myself today. I keep my pace around the pond. I heard skates hit the ice I turned around but the stranger skates past me challenging me to a race. I put all my effort into trying to skate past the challenger but I am still behind. The wind whips through my hair as I go faster then I have ever gone. Soon I forget all about the race and am laughing out of sheer joy. I havent had this much fun in a long time. I keep going faster and faster yet the stranger stays in front. I heard him laugh when I looked up he's gone. I slow down and skate over to my backpack shoving my skates back in, I raise my head looking for any sign of the stranger. I smiled as I pull my backpack over my shoulder. I walk out of the park and just as it starts to snow I hear a soft laugh from the pond.
