My Journey with the Fellowship
October 30, 2004

I find myself face down on a rock on a lonely precipice facing total despair. The rest of the company has moved on far ahead leaving me lagging behind. Diary, I know this is strange taking you on a hike and all, but I try to be faithful to you most of the time. I'm going to try to lift myself, and once again wish I had been a better rock climber.
I'm in the mountains somewhere in Oklahoma with the Service Unit Girl Scout troop, and we're climbing some very steep ones that are not exactly suitable for a 12-year-old girl who is hardly athletic.
Anyways, I'll put my thoughts on lighter things and try to have a jolly disposition, which will manage to get me started again. Oh my gosh.. I can't believe what has just happened..

I'm lost!

Don't panic!! Don't panic!!!!! I see a rather large cleft in a rock, and oh, they may be in there. The air is so damp and strong though.. I'll get back to you later!!!

---(4 hours later)---

My goodness. I'll try to explain what happened the day before, but still I can hardly believe what has happened..
There stood a way before me nine shady figures hiking over a crack in another rock. At first I was surprised at the rugged fields and plains stretching across the horizon, but curiosity overtook me and I made my way forward. As soon as I was close enough to make out their appearances (about 125 feet away), I stopped in mid-breath. It looked exactly like the picture of the Fellowship of the Ring after leaving Rivendell! I happen to be a huge beyond huge LotR fan who has always dreamed of this. The characters-everything- it looked just like the actors who portrayed them!!! I whispered to myself "oh..my..God. Is this real? no..yes! Yes!!! It has to be real! It's real!!!!! Run! Go!" So the adventurous side in me had a sudden burst of adreneline and I bolted off. I realized I was running maniacally toward them, and slowed myself down... After recovering myself, I stepped slowly and when 5 feet behind them, raised my trembling finger and gently tapped on Gandalf's shoulder (I'm tall for my age). I asked nervously, "Hello.. um.. hi! Hi! I'm.. um.. do you happen to be Gandalf?..the Grey?..sir?" ...Slowly he turned and I held my breath...

..I stared as his eyes widened and he raised an eyebrow. "And who might you be young girl?"

For some horrid reason I could not speak. The words refused to come out!!! My mouth was gaping open and I could tell I had a dumb expression on my face. I heard the words of a very excited person shout- "Oh my gosh- YOU'RE GANDALF!! Soon I discovered to my dismay those words were MINE.. To try to make a good impression I quickly smiled and said, "Oh, please excuse me.. My name is.. Well, I'm of the race of men and I come from the United States of America in um.. First Earth." "First Earth?" they asked. "Well, it's like this. You all are living in Middle Earth, so I guess my earth will be....." I stopped. If I told them I'm from a different world they would be utterely in confusion and probably send me back to Rivendell. In one split-second I thought out a plan. "Oh! What I meant was... I'm from the race of men, but my family lives in Minas Tirith! They just call Gondor First Earth.. that's all. I'm a good friend of Hobbits of the Shire though!!"
I heard a Scottish voice exclaim, "That would be me!" Then I came to the realization there were more than just Gandalf listening- the entire Fellowship had gathered around me! "Pippin!!!" I cried. Four miniature figures had grouped around my feet. By now my smile had turned to a huge grin streching from cheek to cheek. They were all so cute- it was unbearable!! I had a feeling I would like traveling with these folks.

-------(two hours later..)-----

Been hiking for miles. Finally Aragorn annouced we would have a lunch break. Then was it that I remembered what awaited us ahead. Pippin and Merry sword fighting with Boromir, Gandalf and Gimli talking of the pass through Moria, Legolas watching a cloud...wait.. A cloud!??! "STOP!!! IT'S SPIES OF SARUMAN!!! DUCK!!" I shouted. Apparently they couldn't hear me over Pippin and Merry laughing. They were enjoying the fight so much they paid no attention. I also remembered Legolas would state the birds were coming so I lay in the little cave, content. The birds passed but I couldn't find Bill the Pony anywhere. *shrug* Oh well. He's going to be with Sam in the Pass of Cahadras anyway.

This is the best time I have ever had in my life. Being with the Fellowship is so much fun. But I knew we would be coming to the mountains soon..

--(later)--

The mountains are upon us!! A large hunk of snow fell on us after some strange bolt of lightning striked out of nowhere. I advised Frodo to take the way of Moria and soon he agreed. Boromir was being such a bully to Mr. Frodo the other day. He gave him a nuggie on the head after he was fondeling the ring with his "small" speech, and Frodo has a bruise now. I've teamed up with Sam to protect, to heal, and to take care of Mr. Frodo!

Sitting at the gate of Moria bored out of my skull. I know the password but Gandalf refuses to let me interupt his concentration. *sigh* I try to get close to Pippin and warn him about not touching any skeletons hanging on wells when we get into the Mountains of Moria. He simply nods his head quickly and continues his story about his adventures at Farmer Maggot's. I often find myself staring into Frodo's eyes.. He really is a good companion, especially to Sam. Oh! I see Mr. Frodo talking to Gandalf about the password. Time to enter.

These halls are amazing! Breathaking! I am held in awe at the gigantic pillars and stone floor. Gimli is knows most about this so I'm thinking about him as my hiking buddy. It will probably go like this- Aragorn+Boromir, Merry+Pippin, Frodo+Sam ....but I'm not sure if I should go with Legolas.. wait.. Of course I'm going with Legolas! Nevermind! *runs toward handsome Elf*....

November 9, 2004

Not so breathtaking as it was before.. Hardly any food.. Gandalf's electric glow staff light is growing dull. At least I have the very strong, very handsome, very skilled, and very intelligent Legolas to help me along. I miss eating Girl Scout pancakes for breakfast. All there is is dwarf cram. We're lost and Gandalf is trying to remember which way to go. I wish Pippin would stop mentioning food. He's heading toward a well with a skeleton.. skeleton?? HOW MANY TIMES HAVE I TOLD Y-

November 10, 2004

Why! Why oh why?? I am so sad. Beyond despair.. Tears are pouring from my eyes. Pippin looks so sad, but especially Frodo. Oh, excuse me- Gandalf.. he's.. he's.. He died!! Wait.. What am I thinking? He's falling thousands of feet battling a giant demon. He'll be back for TTT. *dries tear* Aww, Aragorn insists we get going. Give us a moment for pities sake!!!

November 12, 2004

At Lothlorien. It's so beautiful here. Beautiful beyond description. I suspect Mr. Frodo is looking in Galad's mirror dealy about now, as I hear a faint roaring sound. *looks down from tree* Yes, I see a green flowing figure screaming. hmm.. Seems she's passed the test. She must go into the west.
I love old Sam. Trying to make a song again. ^_^ He's so cute!

November 17, 2004

Lady Galadriel accidentally skipped me. I received no present. However, my experience was unforgettable, and the lembas bread is nice and tasty (but slightly bland).
We're in their Elven boats which are quite unstable.. I'm much looking forward to the giant statues holding their hands up (forgot it's name). My boat buddy is Sam. *cuddles Sam* He's so cuddly! And his gardening conversations are very nice. You know, if you dip the taters in salt water for not more than half a second and skin 'em right, you can boil 'em, mash 'em, stick 'em in a stew.. Go well with some nice, golden chips..

---(some hours later)---

Strange creature following us in log. I suspect it's Gollum.. I know it's Gollum.

November 21, 2004

Frodo and Boromir are missing!!! I hope Mr. Frodo won't give in to that two faced cheapskate! I just can't decide whether to follow Aragorn or Frodo and Sam.. AH! The orcs are com-

--(one hour later)---

But I don't want to go with Merry and Pippin! They're cute but I want to follow Legolas, Aragorn, and Gimli, or at least help out Frodo and Sam.. Planning on escaping when Boromir is being killed.......

-To Be continued...
