Grammar Word order is OVS. When there is a dative in a sentence, the word order is switched to DVSO. Adjectives usually precede the noun they modify. Nouns in the Genitive (which is identical in form but not in function to the dative) also precede the noun they modify, unless that noun is also modified by an adjective, in which case the genitive follows. Prepositions work in the same way, if there is an adjective or genitive before the noun, the preposition follows, placed after any genitive that might be there.
