Yule is also called the winter solstice. It is on December 21st. Yule is the time when the Goddess gives birth to the sun God.
The Yule log was an important rite on this night. A log was brought in to the house and kept burning all night. Afterwards the ashes were scattered on the fields to ensure a good harvest.
One tradititonal Yuletide practice is the creation of a Yule tree. Appropraite Wiccan decorations are fun and easy to make. From strings of rosebuds and cinnamon sticks for garland, to bags of fragrant spices which are hung from the boughs. Quartz crystals can be wrapped with shiney wire and suspended from the branches to resemble icicles.
