WHEN A PRESS MALFUNCTIONS A "REPAIR PLATE" IS USED TO TEST THE PRESS BEFORE A RUN OF BILLS IS ALLOWED TO CONTINUE. A REPAIRMAN, USING A SHEET OF BILLS FROM A STACK WAITING TO BE PRINTED, RAN THE TEST SHEET THROUGH THE PRESS THEN PLACED THE TEST SHEET OF BILLS BACK ON THE STACK WAITING FOR THE THIRD AND FINAL STEP OF THE PRINTING PROCESS.
THIS NOTE IS THE ONLY KNOWN EXAMPLE OF A BILL WITH REPAIR PLATE MARKINGS ON IT.
First of all this is just speculation and any information is sketchy at best because readily available production numbers are few and far between.
This information does not take in to account the physical attributes of the note.
All $1 of this series, 1963 Signatures: Granahan-Dillon were delivered to the Fed between November 1963 and July 1965.
The next series 1963A were delivered between April 1965 and August 1969.
The BEP stops production of one series before running the other, in other words the printing of the two series is not done in parallel.
So, to deliver 1963A series in April 1965 the 1963 series was finished printing by April.
Between November 1963 and April 1965 these G serial numbers were produced, G000 00001A to G793 60000C.
The note in question was produced about 70% through the entire Chicago serial number series.
$1 deliveries to Chicago in that era were fairly regular and even, based on other production data around that time.
