THE BUNGALOW
The Bungalow is the SHACK as Tasmanians call  holiday houses once owned by the Tolman family. Errol was friends of Jack Tolman and was invited to spend many a summer holiday with the family. Errol's parents thought this was great as out of sight out of mind. And Errol did love this place because the beach was just over the hill. There is a boat shed right at the waters edge and it was also owned by the same family. I can see Errol and  Jack playing in the boat shed and swimming the summers away. This beach has no waves  it is part of the Derwent River being salt water. The Tolman family really loved Errol and took him in to their family as one of their own. They knew the situation at home. In those days a ferry came from Hobart and docked at South Arm. And the family and kids were seen wheelbarrowing bags and what nots over the hill to the little Bungalow.Today there is a good road to get there from Hobart though it is a fair hike it is worth the time to go and take a look or two. When we went there one of the present owners was working on the place restoring some wood along the veranda. The stairs out the front of the veranda were so bad from time that her next step was to replace them  She had already gotten rid of the old step.and is going to replace them with ones that looked the same as the original ones.
Map of where the Bungalow is, a place called South Arm. The end of the road is Opposum Bay about 5 klms from South Arm. As you can see to drive takes a lot longer than by ferry but the ferry is long gone.
Side view of the Bungalow where one of the owners Midge is fixing the verandah railing. They find it very hard to mow the grass because there are 1000s of bulbs under the soil on the day we were there the pink naked ladies where flowering as well as just coming up through the soil. There was small stalks everywhere. And after that come the fresias. And then the Jonquils and then the Daffodils. So it is a never ending sea of colour..So when you walk in the yard you must stay to the paths.
Sign out the front of The Bungalow. The reason for the number is that these signs are on a push bike tour of special homes and places of interest in the area . The Bungalow being number 2.
