| Q: What are you writing and how do you manage to do it? A: I am not writing anything at the moment. I am working on my own film with my com-pany Einstein Films - a romantic caper called "The Day the Train Stopped". We hope to shoot in the Autumn of 2004 in the UK. As well as producing (with my partners) I will probably also be acting in the movie. Q: Future re-unions A: Nothing planned. Some of us remain friends and see eachother from time to time. Q: Memories from `Allo! `Allo! days? A: Too many to even begin to mention. Q: Polling in Yahoo Group has shown that you were most popular in `Allo! `Allo! and fans liked in Lt Gruber 1) smile 2) accent 3) uniform. How would you comment that? A: Well - ummmm - how kind. The uniform, like all my costumes, was down to the desiners and wardrobe departement at the BBC. The smile and accent are my own! Q: Actor / Actress you would like to act with? A: Ah .... too many to mention, really. OK, I`ll mention a few. Johnny Depp (again). Robert De Niro. Al Pacino. Judy Dench. Renee Zellweger (Yummy). (Note: Johnny Depp and Guy Siner played together in The Pirates of Carribean: The Curse of the Black Pearl). Q: Whom did you wanted to be when you were young? A: I don`t remember wanting to be anybody else.... I think I pretty much accepted being myself. I did always want to be an actor and "play" other people. And I always liked making people laugh. Q: When asking autograph does the autograph hunter needs to have own photograph or the picture will be sent from the agency? A: Picture will be sent by me. All fanmail gets to me through the agents or the BBC and I will always answer it. Eventually ..... Q: Future theater works (names of the peaces, when and were are they played)? A: Not acting in anything at the moment (see first question). Q: Do you have any memories / funny stories of working with Tom Baker when you ap-peared in the Dr Who story "Genesis of Daleks"? A: No. It was so long ago and in fact I have never even seen "Genesis of Daleks". When it was first broadcast I was on stage in London in something or other and I never catch the repeat. Q: In almost all David Croft / Jimmy Perry / Jeremy Lloyd`s series there is a "camp" character. Gruber was less "camp" than Mr Humpries ("Are You Being Served?") and Gunner "Gloria" Beumaont ("It Ain`t Half Hot Mom"). What kind of reaction did you get from gay people about that character? A: I wanted to be real. I believe the best comedy comes through truth. In fact at the time I had many letters from gay community thanking me for my portrayal - for not "sending them up" with a clichee camp performance. That made me very happy. Q: If you had the chance to have played any other character in `Allo! `Allo!, which character whould you liked to have played? A: Herr Flick. I like to play villains! That said, Richard Gibson was perfectly cast in the role. |
