spirit fire
(a poem written by james roberts in his new book shown here)

" It is born of a dream
and explodes into the mind.
One moment the world is dull and gray.
You diddle and pother your life away,
dimly hoping for a change....

In an instant you are re-born.
The world seems fresh and new,
filled with excitement and possibilities.
You are W.B Yeats in the coffee-shop
feeling "blessed and could bless"
(what a wonderful word! Bless!)

You want to share this bubbling broth
to give life to someone else, someone loved.
Pick up the pen and write.
Pick up the brush and paint.
Filter through your eyes this one-of-a-kind world.

Let the spirit fire consume you
in bright rays of flame of creation. "

this is a book of poems written by james roberts of waterloo, iowa.  i met james while i was working as a bartender at the cellar lounge in waterloo.  he was inspired by some of my artwork and wrote 13 poems based on that inspiration.  he has included those poems (along with his other poems) in this book; my collage was used for the cover.  for  your own copy of 'spirit fire' you may contact james: [email protected].
