Losing a Language
At school, students are able to learn a Foreign Language. There are many languages available at school but now the school district is about to lose Filipino as an accepted language class. The school district is taking out the Filipino language because there is no credential for teaching it. The Filipino teachers are doing all they can do to get a credential and a textbook for the language. The school district should keep the Filipino language program in the schools because many students are taking the class already, there are many Filipinos that speak the language, and that education should be a freedom of choice.
To be accepted to a UC school, it is required to have learned a foreign language for three consecutive years. If the Filipino language is lost, many students will not be able to join a UC college because they would have to switch to learning another language and not have the whole three years needed. Also, many young Filipino students in America do not know much about their culture and to fluently speak the language. If Filipino is taken out, many Filipinos will grow up not being able to speak their own language.
In America, there is a large population of Filipinos. There are also many other cultures in the United States and they also have their language taught at schools. Many languages are available at school like Spanish, Japanese, German, and others; but why is Filipino suddenly going to be taken out. It is very unfair that Filipino is being lost from the school districts. Filipino should be taught just like any other language.
Education should be a freedom of choice. Us students decide what we want to learn. The school district should not limit us students and teachers from what we want to learn or teach. Learning a foreign language is required from high schools but it is the students choice on what language he or she wants to learn. Just like how a student can choose what science he or she wants to learn.
Losing a foreign language does not seem like a good idea. The school district should do what they can to keep Filipino in schools instead of trying to get rid of it. Schools should keep the language and also teach many other languages because America is a very diverse country.

Reflection
My persuasive essay was based on what was going on with the schools in California. My Filipino teacher, Mrs. Balane, announced to us that there was a possibility for the Filipino Language program to be cut. I thought this would be a good topic for me to write about because I was a student in a Filipino class and I felt that it was unfair for the language that I and many others were learning. This essay used a lot of information and logical, emotional, and ethical reasons on why the Filipino language program should not be cut. This paper lacked a Attention grabbing introduction and evidence to support my reasons. There were also some grammar and structure errors but this paper was still in good quality.
