Silicone Parchment Paper
Silicone parchment paper consists of a paper made from pure
bleached chemical pulp, which goes through a treatment of
sulphuric acid giving it a lasting resistance to grease penetration.
This paper is used for wrapping of moist or greasy foodstuffs.
Vegetable parchment is a hygienic food wrap used for foodstuffs
which are greasy, but may at the same time be wet. It is very
like greaseproof paper but the latter is not resistant to
moisture and is less of a barrier to grease. A wrapper from
butter is more likely to be vegetable parchment. It may also
be used to wrap fresh foods in retail shops, package biscuits
etc. Sulphuric acid is another popular acid is used in its
manufacture: it is this that gives the paper its special properties,
but all traces of the acid are thoroughly removed long before
the paper reaches the consumer.
Paper that has been modified by the action of sulphuric acid,
to give it a continuous texture, an increased surface hardness
and a high degree of resistance to penetration by organic
liquids and particularly fats, oils and greases. The structure
also confers on the paper resistance to disintegration by
water, even at boiling point.
