Polyvinyl chloride foam cores are manufactured by combining
a polyvinyl copolymer with stabilizers, plasticizers, cross-linking
compounds, and blowing agents. The mixture is heated under
pressure to initiate the cross-linking reaction and then submerged
in hot water tanks to expand to the desired density. PVC foams
offer a good combination of strength and weight with densities
ranging from 4 to 30 lb/ft3.
