Polycarbonate
Polycarbonates
Commonly referred to as Lexan®, Polycarbonate is a thermoplastic
used in many applications that require high impact strength,
a large temperature service range, excellent electrical properties,
and dimensional stability. Polycarbonate Sheet is smooth and
clear. Normal forming temperature of Polycarbonate . Polycarbonates
are tough, inert, transparent plastics, made by the reaction
of carbonyl chloride with a dihydroxy compound such as diphenylol
propane.
The many uses of polycarbonates include compact discs, outer
shells of cycling or skateboarding helmets, feeding bottles
and to provide the shatterproof “glass” required
for bus shelters, phone booths, visors, car headlamps and
other applications that require glass “clear”
window shielding.
In addition there are the polycarbonates used for electrical
insulation , which can be UL rated.
