Melinex® / Mylar® / Lumirror® / Polymex®

Being the largest converter and distributor of Polyester Film in Europe, we at PCL are in a paramount position, enabling us to supply, both Conservationists and Archivists, with a crystal clear, strong and versatile film for the protection and restoration of highly sensitive documentation.

Our experience within this field allows us to provide our customers with the correct film, which will not crack, fade or deteriorate and is free from plasticisers, catalysts and solvents. There is no middle man and therefore, our prices are extremely competitive.

CARTON WINDOW PATCHING

Polyester not only offers a substantial price saving, but also a superior technical performance when compared to acetate and polypropylene for carton window / patching applications.

Previously, Acetate was the most popular film used for carton windows, but with the advantages which polyester has to offer, more and more companies are now changing to polyester.

Due to the strength of polyester it is possible to down-gauge the film thickness offering a higher yield, in other words "more film for your money''.

We are able to offer customers a wide range of films such as, one or two side chemically or corona treated, thickness ranging from 36 to 175 micron and from widths 10mm to 1524mm.

HEAT SEALABLE FILM HEAT SEALABLE PET FILMS

In addition to their excellent sealing and heating properties (for ready-made meals), heat sealable film can also be used for numerous other purposes, e.g. top-sealing of fruit and vegetables packs, pre-packed (anti-fog treated) fresh foods such as sandwiches or products that have a strong aroma, for flowpack of the same type of products
and for GRP.

Heat sealable polyester film offers a one-side, co-extruded sealable surface with excellent barrier properties. The heat sealable side can be sealed to itself, to untreated surfaces, PVdC, PVC, paper, aluminum foil and well as a variety of other substrates. Because the film is so easy to use, it reduces manufacturing costs and increases productivity dramatically in a variety of manufacturing applications.

Either fin seals or overlap seals may be made on conventional packaging equipment. Polyester heat sealable film also offers superb print adhesion (on secondary surface) and heat and chemical resistance for excellent handling in high speed operations

Temperature range use -40 to 204 deg C.

HEAT FUSIBLE TRANSFER

Fusible heat transfers have an adhesive on one side which will be activated by heat. The choice between a fusible and a sew-in interfacing depends on the fabric, the degree of firmness desired, and personal preference. Fusible transfers are great time savers. They're easy to work with and compatible with most fabrics. They will make a fabric slightly crisper than a sew-in interfacing of comparable weight.

PET offers the best protection for flavor and freshness as well as superior oxygen and moisture barrier properties.

DRAFTING FILM

Drafting film is made of polyester with 1 or 2 side matt translucent drawing surface, a perfect surface for ink, pencil or plotting drafting techniques. Heat stable translucent drafting film is ideal for all engineering plain paper copiers.

Polyester drafting film is treated to reduce static, accept paint ink, and pencil. Drafting film also removes cleanly and provides dimensional stability. Whether you use ink or pencil, it gives you the right amount for sharp, clean accurate lines.

Drafting film can also be used for screen (common uses include T- shirts, mugs, mousepads etc) and planographic processes which is used to create magazines, books, newspapers, reports, brochures and much more.

FLEXOGRAPHIC PRINTING

All sorts of materials are flexographic printed, from toothpick wrappers to huge bags for mattresses. Films, foils, tissues, enormous corrugated sheets, limp plastic films, glass and textiles can be flexographic printed.Bioriented polyester (PET) films are ideal for flexographic applications due to good tear resistance, temperature and humidity stability, sheet flatness and clarity.

MASKING FILM

Polyester film is an ideal carrier for masking membranes, because clarity, dimensional stability and robustness are essential qualities of a good masking film, particularly for CAD.We offer Masking film (polymask) with a scratch resistant membrane in red or amber with universal tack plus speed peel properties.

PRINTING

Using polyester film as a base for colour printing is one of the most popular uses for polyester film . Products including picture photos have a base of polyester which is used for colour printing, by firms such as Kodak & Fuji film.

Polyester film has many advantages for base colour printing, including a precise printing quality, high speed, registration accuracy, high efficiency and high economy. When using polyester as a base you do not need to worry about print fading, discolouring or detoriating for a very long time.

SCREEN PRINTING

Screen printing is arguably the most versatile of all printing processes. It can be used to print on a wide variety of substrates, including paper, paperboard, plastics, glass, metals, fabrics, and many other materials, including paper, plastics, glass, metals, nylon and cotton. Some common products from the screen printing industry include posters, labels, decals, signage, and all types of textiles and electronic circuit boards. The advantage of screen printing over other print processes is that the press can print on substrates of any shape, thickness and size.

POLYPROPLENE

Polypropylene is exceptionally tough, with a high strength to weight ratio and excellent resistance to many chemicals over a wide temperature range. It can be die-cut easily, and can be hot or cold creased to provide an intregral hinge capability of many thousands of flexings.

Polypropylene sheet may, subject to chemical resistance considerations, be used over the temperature range -20 degrees Celisus to 90 +degrees Celisusin certain circumstances, intermittent exposure up to 135 degrees Celisus is permissible.

ACETAL

Delrin® acetal copolymer resin has high tensile strength, stiffness, resilience, fatigue endurance, a low coefficient of friction, and moderate toughness. It provides predictable mechanical, chemical, and electric properties over a broad temperature range for long periods. Good lubricity and resistance to wear make this a good choice for bearings as well as other demanding applications. It has low moisture absorption and is resistant to a wide variety of solvents, including alcohols, aliphatics, aromatics, aldehydes, ketones, ethers, oils, greases, and gasoline.

GASKETS

Gaskets primary purpose is to seal joints to avoid leakages.
While pure gasketing materials are mainly used for sealing, Polymex®,while mainly used for spacing applications can also be used where some limited sealing is required.
SPECIALIST TOOLS AND MACHINERY

We produce inexpensive high quality tools to manufacture the above components Proto-type to mass production quanities to any design tolerances.

POLYMEX COLOUR CODING

Our standard Polymex Plastic ( colour coded polyester film ) has become increasingly recognised as a major engineering for shimming ,spacing and insulation because it is cost effective in operation.

It can be fabricated easily and provides a high strength to weight ratio , good corrosion resistance, as well as low co - efficent of friction, excellent resistance to wear, and is also safer than standard shimmering materials. Polymex is now available in various sheet sizes in stock.

POLYMEX SHIMS

At Plastic Shims & Gaskets, we have carefully monitored customer response from all over the world. The overwhelming conclusion is that it’s the most efficient and pliable material for shimming between surfaces to function as a seal and used to modify clearance on mating surfaces.

In addition, plastic shims have a much higher strength-to-weight ratio compared to metallic alternatives and prevent corrosion between dissimilar materials.

INSULATORS

Mainly used to prevent transmitting of electricity, heat from one surface to another.
From being largely identified with Colour-coding, Plastic Shims & Gaskets Ltd,has developed into the Hi -Tec insulations field where situations can be more demanding and materials tend to fail unless they are specified.

SPACERS & WASHERS

Primary function is to reduce or eliminate the gap between moving faces. Spacers or washers is a popular design solution for assembly, for example, where bushes, bearings, rollers are utilized.

In addition, of course Plastic shims have a much higher strength-to-weight ratio compared to metallic alternatives and prevent corrosion between dissimilar materials.
