Development of Mathematical Equation of Calculation of angular distortion in Flat Fillet weld made by SAW

Abstract

Distortion is almost an integral part of any fusion welding process leading to poor quality welds made by Submerged Arc Welding process (SAW).Fillet welds have been made in flat position on L shaped 12mm thick hot rolled mild steel specimen under Direct Current Electrode (DCEN) polarity with automatic submerged arc welding equipment. A two level full factorial technique has been used to study linear first order and second order interaction effects between the three process variables and the quality features on angular distortion. Regression analysis has been used to develop the mathematical model. The developed mathematical model has been listed for adequacy by analysis of variance; student ‘t’ test has been used to check the significance of regression coefficient. The mathematical model so developed can be used to predict the angular distortion in flat fillet welds.
