It’s hard to believe that we’re already halfway through the first quarter!  Interim reports were sent home today with a quick overview of how your child is doing.  If his/her spelling grade is low, please spend some extra time each night to have your child practice the spelling words for the week.  These words can be found in several places: the nine weeks overview that was sent home the first week of school, or the spelling sheet that is sent home on Mondays, or on our class webpage.  It would also be great to have your child practice addition and subtraction facts for numbers 1 – 12.  They need to start knowing these without having to count on their fingers.

Homework

The reading log should be signed every Monday through Thursday.  Remember to read:
Monday:  story from big red book

Tuesday/Wednesday: leveled book/AR book
Thursday:  story from big red book

 

Math homework is every Monday through Thursday night in Excel Math.  Remember to use the check answer!  Parents, thank you for working with your child on these.  Due to the amount of time taking tests on Fridays, we will start taking our Math tests on Thursdays.

 

Things to practice at home each night: spelling and math basic facts!

 

Friday is test day.  Students will have tests in math, phonics, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and spelling. 

Reminders

 

*Be sure to send your child’s lunch money in an envelope with his/her name and lunch number on the front. 

 

*Great job with the coupon book sale!  Almost everyone returned their book/orders on time.  If you haven’t returned that yet, please do so a.s.a.p.!  This was a great WTPS fundraiser to help out our school.

 

*Don’t forget to read for 15 minutes each night and sign and return the reading log!

Social Studies:  Last week we learned about community and citizens, this week we’ll learn about the earth as our home, and next week we’ll learn about a working world.
