| DISCOGRAPHY: (Erik's contributions, songwriting and otherwise, are noted below each.) 1968- IRON BUTTERFLY "IN-A-GADDA-DA-VIDA" Features the Braunn/Dorman track "Termination". Erik sings lead on "Termination". Also note the guitar in "Most Anything You Want" and "Are You Happy". Erik was also responsible for the trademark riff to "Vida", as well as for suggesting the drum solo. Erik's last name is spelled "Brann" on the album's liner notes. 1969- IRON BUTTERFLY "BALL" Features Braunn's "Belda Beast", again with Erik singing lead. Also note the guitar in "Her Favorite Style" and "Lonely Boy", as well as maybe Erik's best solo on record, "Filled With Fear". Erik's full name is listed next to his picture on the inside of the album. Note the super cool Prince Valiant clothes he is sporting in both pictures. 1970- IRON BUTTERFLY "LIVE" Features three songs from "Ball", two from "Vida", and one from "Heavy". Some of Erik's finest playing ever can be heard on this outstanding live record. This was Erik's last album with the Butterfly. They attempted to replace him with guitarists Mike Pinera and Larry Rheinhardt later that year, shortly before disbanding. 1974- IRON BUTTERFLY "SUN AND STEEL" Features mainly Braunn-penned songs, with a few contributions from other members. First of two albums to featuring the Braunn-led Iron Butterfly, and from talking to him, I think it is his favorite. The songs "Sun And Steel" and "Scorching Beauty" really stand out. 1975- IRON BUTTERFLY "SCORCHING BEAUTY" Again featuring mainly Braunn's songs, this album built on the groundwork laid on the previous album. By this time, Howard Reitzes had replaced Bill Demartines on keyboards. "Hard Miseree" is the absolute stand-out track on this album. This would prove to be both the last Iron Butterfly studio album and Erik's last officially released recording...as of now, anyway. It also marked the end of his involvement in Iron Butterfly until the 1988 reunion tour. ERIK'S NEW ALBUM Although I don't know when or even if it will get released, I sincerely hope Erik's last work becomes available to the public. Perhaps his wife Gail or some other acquaintance can help this project see the light. I have heard peices of this album, many of which were on a tape he mailed to me personally, so I will list all the songs that I know of from it. Everybody cross your fingers for a posthumous release, as this material is truly musical poetry. Tracks: Angry Need A Friend One Clean Cut Love That $ In The Arms Of Love I'd Never Go Stilleto Power and The Glory 2nd To No. 1 Common Seed Many of these songs can be downloaded from E.B.'s official website www.erikbraunn.net However, it is only clips from each song, as Erik was justifiably afraid of distributing full songs due to bad experiences in the past with bootleggers. ALSO: IRON BUTTERFLY LIVE AT THE GALAXY CLUB '67 This was recorded while Iron Butterfly was still in transition between the "Heavy" and "Vida" lineups... i.e., Braunn on guitar, and the rest of the band that was on the "Heavy" album sans Danny Weiss. Never officially released, these recordings can be found on many free music download share sites. Erik knew about this, and theorised that the people who posted it either had to be the guy who made the recording or Ron Bushy himself, b/c to his knowledge he and the two of them were the only three who had the recordings. The band perform songs from "Heavy" and a few that would turn up later on "Ball", as well as a few originals that have never been released on an album. Be warned, the sound quality isn't that good, and some of the vocals are God-awful, but be assured that Erik's guitar playing shines and makes these recordings worth hearing. Most interesting are a jam-up rendition of "Iron Butterfly Theme" and an early working of "Lonely Boy" in which Erik gets to perform the full solo he intended for that song (see bio for more details.) The tracks from this show, that I know of, are: Iron Butterfly Theme Lonely Boy Filled With Fear Gentle As It May Seem It's Up To You Gloomy Day To Remember Real Fright Fields Of Sun Possession Unconscious Power (?) There are more songs which I intend to find and will post when I know what they are. I have been able to download most of these (with Erik's blessing, of course) and will try and figure out some way to make them available. |
