Merrillville Lumber Companies

On Broadway just north of 73rd Avenue ( near Fran's Auto sales ) was Brugos's Auto Service. Some time before that the building was Merrillville Lumber. This was switched by the C&O Railroad.

On Broadway where Handy-Andy is was Hannah's Lumber that up until the late 1970's was switched by the Grand Trunk Railroad.

Long before the mini-mall explosion on US 30 at the site of Home Depot was Mid-America Home Sales. This was switched by the C&O Railroad.

Gary Lumber Companies

Grant Street Lumber was switched by the N-S ( Norfolk Southern ) railroad, still referred to by many as the "Nickel Plate" railroad. This was because this line at one time, before being acquired by the Norfolk & Western Railroad, the New York City, Chicago, and St. Louis railroad was called the "Nickel Plate". Maybe something to do with how they treated the rails, but no one knows for sure.

Larson's Lumber was switched by the Michigan Central, which was later acquired by the Penn Central, then became Conrail, and then abandoned.
