Dying You destroyed our death. Rising You restored our life. Lord Jesus, Come in glory!
It has been almost one month since Fr. Charley Miller passed into eternal life. I am grateful to all of you for your help with Fr. Miller's funeral arrangements, especially the liturgies through which we commended him to God and celebrated his entrance into the heavenly worship I also thank God for the support so many of you have offered during the whole time of Fr. Miller's appreciation celebration, his illness and death, and during the month since his death. and during the month since his death. Many people who participated in the various events

surrounding both his life and death have commented on the wonderful care give to Fr. Miller and on the deeply moving funeral liturgies. Both the care he received and the prayerfulness of the funerals are a testament to the dedication of many people-at St. John's Seminary, at St. Julie's, at Our Lady of the Angels Cathedral-and to the love of the many people who were touched by Fr. Miller during his life-his family, his friends, his former students, his brother priests and his brother Vincentians. Mention should also be made of the special care shown to Fr. Miller by his physicians, nurses and other medical or hospice personnel; the folks who helped him return to New Orleans for a final visit; and the funeral directors in both New Orleans and Camarillo. Many people should probably be acknowledged by name and there are also the people whose names I do not know. Since it is impossible to include everyone, and I would be afraid to leave someone out-please accept my general expression of appreciation and thanks. Of course, my deepest gratitude is offered to God. His providential care for Fr. Miller was manifested in many ways during the past year and especially during the last three months. If anyone doubts that God manifests his love for us individually (as well as communally), I will gladly testify to some wonderful examples of God's providence. Not a few of us would consider the glorious sunset displayed while Fr. Miller's casket was placed in the hearse and his mortal remains left St. John's Seminary for the last time to be a special sign from God. Fr. Charley Miller truly believed in the Word which is proclaimed week after week, and day after day in our liturgical celebrations. On the Fifth Sunday of Lent we listened to this dialogue between Jesus and Martha, the sister of Lazarus: Jesus said to her, "Your brother will rise." Martha said to him, "I know he will rise, in the resurrection on the last day." Jesus told her, "I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?" She said to him, "Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, the Son of God, the one who is coming into the world." Fr. Miller's faith in Christ and his commitment to the proclamation of the word gave him hope during the month in which he knew he was dying. He had expressed a desire to celebrate one final Paschal Triduum on earth, and many of expected to have a little more time to plan his final days and to say "Good bye." Obviously, God had other plans for him and for us. Let us continue to pray for Fr. Charles Miller and to support one another during the days ahead. May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed rest in peace. In Christ, Kevin McCracken, C.M. Superior, Vincentian Community of St. John's Seminary, Camarillo
