Assessment:
Have students answer questions during the lesson as well as incorporating this lesson with a physical education class.

Lesson 2: Health Benefits of Exercise (walking)

Lesson Objectives:
Review cardiovascular endurance.
Explain the heart as a muscle.
Introduce the use of pedometers to track steps (walking).
Guiding Questions:
How much exercise do you get daily?  How many steps do you think you take daily?  How much distance (in miles) do you think you walk daily, weekly?
Materials:
Pedometers
Journals to record steps
Computers for students with excel software
Introduction:
Review with the students yesterdays lesson about cardiovascular endurance and exercise.  Today explain what types of exercise are cardiovascular and that we will be using pedometers to track their steps and overall cardiovascular fitness.
Procedures:
Explain to the class how to use the pedometers to track steps.

Explain that 10,000 steps daily is a healthy goal.

Explain how to convert other exercise such as sports into steps depending upon time devoted to such sports.

Explain how to use the journal to transfer information to excel spreadsheet.

Assessment:
After 1 week the students will take what they have recorded in their journals and transfer that information into a spreadsheet document.

Lesson 3: Muscular Strength and Endurance

Lesson Objectives:
How many push-ups can you complete?
How many curl-ups can you complete?
How flexible are you?

Guiding Questions:
Why is it important to be able to complete certain # of push-up and curl-ups?
Materials:
Flexibility Box
Gymnastics Mat
Tape recorder
Tape with beat pattern
Computers for students to record data
Introduction:
Todays focus will be on muscular strength and endurance.  Fist explain what muscular strength and endurance are, and the importance in relation to overall health.
Procedures:
Display what a curl-up is.

Display what a push-up is.

Explain flexibility and display.

Have students with the aid of tape recorder complete as many push-ups and curl-ups as they can in 2minutes.

Also have students complete flexibility assessment.

Assessment:
Take the information I have recorded along with the students and chart this in a spreadsheet program.  This will also be used for post assessment later in the school year.

Lesson 4: Introduction to Fitness Activities

Identify different sports.
Identify different recreational activities.
Identify different games.
Guiding Questions:
What is exercise?  What sports and activities do you enjoy?
Materials:
Instructors computer with projector
Projection screen
Computers with internet access for students
Introduction:
Today we will research different exercise sports, activities and games that you can participate in to increase overall fitness.
Procedures:
Have students think about previous lessons about cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance and flexibility.

The goal is to find sports games and activities using the internet that they enjoy.

When the students have finished collecting information we will make a chart of sports activities and games and explain their benefits on cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility and overall health.

Assessment:
As a group determine what sports activities, and games most benefit all aspect of health and fitness.

Lesson 5: Fitness for Fun

Lesson Objectives:
To teach the students group games that are fun and students are exercising.
Guiding Questions:
