ORIGINAL CRITERION DEMOS

2000, Eventide ET2000-1 (Red CD!)

Tracks 1-17: Criterion Studios, Hollywood early 1971 (the right date is 6th April 1970) Tracks 18-20: Stonybrook University 26th February 1972 (should be the 24th)

Tracks: Last Time I Was Home, Jamaica Say You Will, Song For Adam, Doctor My Eyes, Low Road, Door Into The Morning, Another Place, The Birds of St. Marks, Mae Jean Goes To Hollywood, Gone To Sorrow, Hot Like Today, A Child In These Hills, The Top, My Opening Farewell, The Times You've Come, From Silver Lake, There Came A Question, Bonus tracks: Redneck Friend Sweet Little Sixteen Corina Corina

Sound: Good. Stated on the sleeve as “best ever sound”, but this is the version of the Criterion demos that´s been demolished by too heavy noise reduction, the hiss is gone, but also all high frequencies!! My CDR version is far superior. The bonus tracks have really excellent sound. Source: Studio demos

THE CRITERION DEMOS 1998, DR. DOG RECORDS Tracks 1-17: Criterion Music's studio in Hollywood early in 1971 . Tracks 18-19: Crystal Sound Studio, 1971. Last Time I Was Home Jamaica Say You Will Song For Adam Doctor My Eyes Low Road Door Into The Morning Another Place The Birds of St. Marks Mae Jean Goes To Hollywood Gone To Sorrow Hot Like Today A Child In These Hills The Top My Opening Farewell The Times You've Come From The Silverlake There Came A Question Rock Me On The Water (alternate single version) Nightingale (unreleased track for the first album) Country=Japan; sound=excellent; source=sbd; cover=1 page. It's unbelievable that the complete Criterion Demos are available now in this sublime sound quality. Especially when you keep in mind that the songs were recorded almost 30 years ago. It's wonderful to hear all those unreleased songs. "Hi, For any of you on this list who have those amazing Criterion Demos , the correct date for that session [All 22 songs were done the same afternoon] was Monday, April 6, 1970. Rich Wiseman's Book states "Early 1971" but that was based on a Guess I had giving him at the time. By early 71, Jackson had already written a batch of newer tunes[ "Rock Me on the Water", "Looking into You", "Under the Falling Sky", ect..] and was publishing them himself thru Geffen's own company. The songs Criterion owns was everything [except one] Jackson had written from 1967 thru April 1970. I hope this information is useful to some . Joey McGowan,"

Broadcast by WIOQ, Philadelphia, PA. There is some tape warbling at the begining and a fair amount of source tape hiss throughout. Sounds like this source tape went through several generations. Jackson sounds a bit stoned between tunes, but the performance is strong though in the numbers and Lindley is ON.

TAKE ME TO THE NASHVILLE

Live At Municipal Auditorium, Nashville, TN Feb 22, 1978

Source: Soundboard

DISC 1 Take It Easy, The Fuse, Fountain Of Sorrow, Here Come Those Tears Again, Before The Deluge, Your Bright Baby Blues, Rock Me On The Water, Cocaine, Rosie, For A Dancer

DISC 2 Doctor My Eyes, These Days, For Everyman, Walking Slow, Running On Empty, Love Needs A Heart, The Pretender, The Load-Out, Stay, The Road And The Sky

NOTE: This is an interesting document of what sounds like a great show. The problems are with the source tape, which occasionally drops out several tracks from the mixing board, such as several instruments or vocals. The second disc also has some serious sound defects from the source tape which come in and out. Sounds like some kind of mechanical clipping. I enjoy it, but I'd have to say for the hard core fan only.

1998, White Rabbit Records WR 98007

A collection of duets and rarities Tracks: 1. Rock Me On The Water (with Kathy Mattea) 2. You're A Friend Of Mine (with Clarence Clemmons - 1985) 3. Unloved (duet with Jann Arden - 1993) 7. Just Like You (duet with Keb'Mo - 1996) 8. Tender Is The Night (remastered) 9. Somebody's Baby (Fast Times at Ridgemont High - OST - 1982) 10. El Salvador (duet with Joan Baez - "Speaking Of Dreams" - 1989) 11. If I Only Had A Brain (feat. Jewel, Ry Cooder- Wizard Of Oz Concert - 1989) 12. We're Off To See The Wizard (feat. Jewel, Ry Cooder) 13. Fiona (Lyle Lovett & Jackson 1996) 14. The Crow On The Cradle (feat. Graham Nash - Madison Square "No Nukes" - 1979) 15. Before The Deluge ("No Nukes" - 1979) 16. Stay (feat. Country=EEC; sound=superb; source=CD; booklet=4 pages (nice pictures). It's a little bit strange why track 4 & 13 are on this compilation because Jackson is only singing background vocals and is hard to hear. The tracks were probably taken from official released CD's so the sound quality of all tracks is superb.

GOLDEN SLUMBERS VOL. 3

1998, White Rabbit Records WR 98008 Track 1-9: Live at the RAI, Amsterdam, December 9th, 1976 Track 10-11: Woodstock, NY December 12th, 1993 (With Bruce Cockburn) Track 12-13: Santa Cruz Civic, May 19th 1987

Paul Brady) Country=EEC; sound=superb; source=FM; booklet=4 pages. This is a very nice CD. The Amsterdam show was released in Japan as "AMSTERDAM 1976". The sound quality of the Japanese CD however was not as good as this volume 3 in the Golden Slumbers series.
