NOTE: Several tracks are missing from tracklists listed on several websites. The tracklist above is accurate for the discs that I have in my collection.

NOTES: This set includes all the circulating 1966 line recordings of concert performances except the Dwarf Music demo of "Tell Me Momma," which is ascribed to Sheffield. The performance of "I Don't Believe You" listed for Dublin corresponds to the Biograph track listed as Belfast; while the official ascription has often been considered erroneous, Krogsgaard has found records showing Columbia has both the Dublin and Belfast performances of the song in its vaults. The titles for the Glasgow Hotel tracks are unofficial. NOTE: The set is divided into five subparts, which will no doubt soon be circulating separately: "A Phoenix in April" [Sydney]; "The Children's Crusade" [Melbourne, Adelaide, Edinburgh]; "While The Establishment Burns" [Dublin, Copenhagen, Edinburgh]; "A Nightly Ritual" [Liverpool, Glasgow, Sheffield, Birmingham]; "The Genuine Royal Albert Hall Concerts" [Manchester, London]

DEEP: [A Phoenix In April] What hits you initially is the startling and crystalline quality of the recording of Dylan's voice, not to mention the full tones of the guitar and harp. The singular nature of the acoustic performances is awe-inspiring. The electric set is, as a whole, my favorite of all the Dylan/Hawks performances. . For those of us who dig the sound of his voice, it does not get much better than this. A monumental show and a blistering performance for the ages.

[The Children's Crusade] Stunning sound and a focused, deliberate performance combine to make this a highlight of the extant acoustic sets. A smooth recording that captures Dylan in what seems to be a more mellow, "stoned" mood than Sydney. The trio of electric tracks, full-bodied and well-balanced recordings, make for some great listening. The Adelaide interview is interesting.

Kneeling By A Barbed-Wire Fence - Woodstock, NY June 1966

[While The Establishment Burns] Sharper, more detailed sound for Dublin than anything out previously; a much more straightforward performance with Dylan completely focused on each tune immediately upon completing the one before. The "Rolling Stone" from Edinburgh may be the highlight of the set, 8 minutes of rock and roll heaven. Dylan's phrasing is sublime and his furious vocals are something to behold.

[A Nightly Ritual] The Liverpool electric set is stunning stuff, dominated by Dylan's bold vocals and Robbie Robertson's razor-edge guitar fills. The lovely Glasgow tape is in pristine sound. Sheffield is an absolutely gorgeous recording, so full and richly toned it will leave you stunned. Dylan's performance goes from ridiculously phenomenal to sublime; he nails every tune and his harp playing is brilliant. A brilliant performance in astounding sound quality.

[The Genuine Royal Albert Hall Concerts] Better to stick to the official release for the Manchester tracks. Terrific sound on the May 26 tracks (despite a few new sound glitches), with Dylan's deep vocals way up front and the rich tones of his guitar and harp caught perfectly. Fuller, richer, crisper and cleaner sound than on anything previously circulating, with considerably less acetate noise. The wonderful electric performances have a bit more roll than rock.. The harp playing is surreal throughout the May 27 acoustic set, and the standout song is most definitely the lengthy, drawn out "Desolation Row."

The fantastic radio show excerpts wrap things up nicely. Overall, this release, stands head and shoulders above anything that has come before. In addition, the packaging is distinguished by its stunning graphics and dazzling array of bonus paraphernalia. A singular, original artifact, and certainly required listening for any serious rock music lover. anon: The Sydney tracks are far superior to any versions previously circulating, with more punch and dynamics, brighter and fuller sound. Melbourne is remastered from the long-unavailable Wanted Man release, the finest source, in fabulous quality. Dublin, while not quite so fine as the other acoustic sets, is still better than any previous release. The Edinburgh tracks are flat out the most frenetic, manic, and high-powered performances of these songs. Liverpool features both incredible sound and performances, with off-the-wall great lead guitar from Robbie Robertson. Sheffield is a haunting, otherworldly performance, in the finest sound quality of all the acoustic sets. The Manchester acoustic set certainly feels different from both the official release and "Guitars Kissing," but the variation is slight. The London tracks, sourced from the Geslston acetates, are the smoothest, cleanest, and quietest versions of these performances to date. And the interview segments are way cool and entertaining. rmd: A stunning set. The new Sheffield acoustic set is gorgeous, a finely nuanced, charismatic performance in excellent quality. The stunning Liverpool electric set also sounds first-rate. Packaging is top-notch.(DM)

rmd: A great 1975 RTR show highlighted by Dylan's three brilliant acoustic numbers and a wonderful Gordon Lightfoot set. Sound is very good to excellent for an audience tape of its vintage, with some glitches after the tape swaps, although the early part of the show is a bit muffled.

(2) Tracklist: Revue: Good Love Is Hard To Find (Guam), Sleazy (Guam), Werewolves Of London (T-Bone Burnett), "Laissez-Faire" (Steven Soles), Catfish (Rob Stoner), Life On Mars (Mick Ronson), Alabama Dark (Ronee Blakley/Bobby Neuwirth), I Need a New Sun Rising (Ronee Blakely), Trucker's Dreams (Cindy), (Guam), Mercedes Benz (Bobby Neuwirth)

Dylan: Mr. Tambourine Man, Tangled Up In Blue, Oh Sister, Hurricane, One More Cup Of Coffee, Sara, Just Like A Woman, Knockin' On Heaven's Door (w/McGuinn).
Revue: This Land Is Your Land

rmd: One of the best RTR shows I've heard, with Dylan in prime form, plus amazing sets from Ronnie Hawkins and Gordon Lightfoot. Sound quality is very listenable, repaired and remixed from a source tape with sonic problems.

BOB & JERRY

BAJ 1 3CD [T-034]

(1) Robert F. Kennedy Stadium (Washington, DC); June 25, 1995 (2) Warfield Theater (San Francisco, CA); November 16, 1980

Tracklist: (1) Drifter's Escape, Watching The River Flow, All Along The Watchtower, Simple Twist Of Fate, Silvio, Mama You Been On My Mind, Desolation Row, One Too Many Mornings, Maggie's Farm, What Good Am I, Like A Rolling Stone, It Takes A Lot To Laugh, Rainy Day Women #12 & 35

(2) Gotta Serve Somebody, I Believe In You, Like A Rolling Stone, Keep On Falling In Love, Man Gave Names To All The Animals, To Ramona, Walking Around Heaven All Day, Abraham Martin And John, Let's Keep It Between Us, Mary From The Wild Moor, Covenant Woman, Solid Rock, Just Like A Woman, Señor, Simple Twist Of Fate, The Groom's Still Waiting At The Altar

DEEP: An attempt to package Jerry's first and last appearances with Bob in one set. The RFK show has been released elsewhere, so all I'll add is that the quality here is even better, the sound being a tad crisper and brighter on the high ends w/a bit less of an audience recording feel. The other half presents the whole show from the Warfield, Jerry's first guest appearance w/Bob. It's an average audience recording with the sound a bit hollow and flat, though listenable. I don't think this will see much time in my player, since half of this show is available as a soundboard in damned good quality and includes all of Garcia's guest slot. Still, a nice document to have and the only place to get the '80 show in its entirety. Once again, too, the RFK is special.

CDG: The 1995 show is in wonderful sound quality. The 1980 one is just decent, though I prefer this complete audience tape to the incomplete soundboard that is more commonly available.

Many of the tracks are already circulating. The package is very well produced and presented. It is much less convenient to handle than Great Dane's "You Don't Know Me," but contains a much more representative sample of Dylan's career. (Clive Barrett) NOTE: The 1999 Scorpio reissue of the set includes a slightly revamped booklet.

THE GENUINE BOOTLEG SERIES TAKE 2

Scorpio GZ H21975/H2202/H21930 [T-074]

DEEP: Approx 40% unreleased and, of the other 60%, most (if not all) is in superior quality to what is currently available on CD. Disks are over 70 minutes each and the packaging rivals any Dylan CD to date. All in all, a much better collection than GBS Volume 1. I thought that collection more or less sucked. This one is different and well worth owning. CDG: No one will be disappointed with this. It comes with a booklet of 40 pages, including many photos. rmd: The package configuration is identical to the original set. If anything, the photos are even better this time around. The tracks here seem equally good or superior in sound quality to other CD releases. The totally new material on GBS2 (disc 1) stands well enough on its own and is all knock-your-socks-off quality. (Bob Stacy) NOTE: The 1999 Scorpio reissue of the set includes a slightly revamped booklet.

GENUINE BOOTLEG SERIES VOLUME 3 (THE THIRD ONE NOW)

Scorpio GZ J81310/J70918/J70826 [T-636]

DEEP: A startling collection of unreleased tunes and perhaps the most enjoyable and surprising of the 3 released so far. Once again, the packaging is more than deluxe: four panel gatefold glossy slipcase with picture sleeves for each disk, rare glossy Bob pics on each panel and a 40 page booklet replete with two dozen more rare, vintage photos. GBS3 is a desert island collection. The tracks flow together so perfectly and capture each of the many phases of Dylan's ever changing art perhaps as well as anything ever has.

NOTE: The bulk of this material is pirated, not bootlegged, from legitimate albums that are about as "hard to find" as a Borders bookstore or an Internet music retailer. DEEP: An excellent compilation of Dylan songs unavailable on Dylan albums, spanning '63 to '95. Still, a lot of the material is no longer in print, so here's your chance to get it on CD.

DEEP: Although it has its moments, this is not on the level of its predecessor. Some trax are indeed extraordinary, others much less so. Overall, an uneven set but one that has some highly desirable cuts. I'll leave it as a toss up. If it matters to anyone, the packaging is top notch, with beautiful color live and candid shots and a nice looking color pic CD. CDG: A nice selection of tracks in not so very good quality, with a few exceptions. Not too hard to find these tracks, either. rmd: The whole thing is not really too impressive. Though there are a few nice takes on it that I hadn't heard before, I guess they are widely in circulation already. Quality differs greatly from song to song, both concerning performances and sound. There are some very enjoyable things here, but nothing that is really *Hard To Find*. (Christian Zeiser)

CDG: Massive high quality live retrospective compilation; almost every period is covered (with a few inevitable individual gaps). Excellent quality, selection and performances.

Heylin: A frustrating mixture of the quintessential and the humdrum, in packaging that shames the official Bootleg Series 1- 3.

rmd: Sound quality for the "Folksinger's Choice" tracks is inferior to that on the original "Folksinger's Choice" CD.

rmd: If you don't care about getting the very best circulating sound quality and just want a quick, convenient, listenable collection of some good rare performances, this is fine. But much, if not most, of this can be found in better quality elsewhere, if you're up for a little research.
