::sylvia plath::
Sylvia Plath was a poet and at one time, was married to the late poet Ted Hughes. She committed suicide when she was 30.
I don't claim to be an expert on Plath, but I have read a great deal about her. She was a brillant writer, worked for Mademoiselle magazine as a guest editor, and also taught English.
She had very high expectations of herself and had many aspirations. I believe she attempted suicide 3 times, and had been placed into a mental health facility for therapy.
After having reading many of her poems, I feel the loss of what was one of the greatest poets to ever live. There is no doubt in my mind that she would have attained international fame had she stayed alive. No one really knows what causes somebody to believe that life is not worth living, but the contribution that Plath made to American literature cannot be matched. We will miss her and honor her memory.
On this page I'll post various poems of Plath's, as well as information and excepts from books and articles on her and her untimely death. Also I will post several poems from Ted Hughes' book Birthday Letters (which supposedly 'ended the silence' of his about Plath and her death).
