The Bluegrass
Karst Conservancy (BKC) is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt non-profit organization(pending) dedicated to the preservation and conservation of Kentucky’s
unique karst features. The BKC was formed in 2003 when it became
apparent that no other groups were interested and/or able to actively
protect such areas for their inherent geological, biological, and
archaeological importance. The BKC supports research and promotes
the education of landowners and the general public within the
subject of karst and its appropriate use. Many of today's abuses
in karst areas arise from lack of understanding and knowledge.
Although the karst areas that we seek to protect may contain caves, we are not an organization dedicated to facilitating "recreational" caving. There are other organizations available to provide for these resources.
