The Steinways (Sept. 2001 - Oct. 2001) Brian - vocals/saxophone Drew Novelli - vocals/guitar/bass Jason Rubenstein - piano/lion's share of the real talent Kevin Titze - drums (band split before Titze could even practice with them, but was still invited and did accept) Played only one show, which was well-received enough to earn a write-up in Brian's college newspaper. Jason quit the band and Brian & Drew changed the group's name to The Deans.

The Deans (Oct. 2001 - Apr. 2006) Brian - vocals/saxophone Drew Novelli - vocals/guitar/bass/keyboards Other Musicians Credited on Deans Material: Bryan DeLuca - guitar/voice // Kevin Titze - percussion Rob Giorgio - voice // Chris Hemphill - voice Ken Levin - Congas // Ricky Williams - voice The Deans are Brian and Drew's ongoing side-project. Their song, "The Ballad of Dean Mayo," was the hit of their college campus in 2003, and remains the legacy of The Deans. Other songs such as, "Ira," and "I Owe You One," also act as standouts in The Deans' songbook. Their sidelined album, Wonder What's Up There, was shaved down to a 7-track EP and briefly released in 2004. The Deans played a short string of dates to mixed reviews. That following Summer the rest of the album was pieced together from the disparate parts of several recording sessions, but has nevr made it out as a finished product. In the Spring of 2005 The Deans seemed set for a comeback when - practically out of nowhere - they announced that a new album called, Drew vs. Brian vs. Brian vs. Drew, was recorded. Containing two of The Deans' finest songs, "No Respect (I'm Harvey Peterson)," and, "I Just Come Undone," DvBvBvD would eventually be shelved and remains in the vaults to this day. The Deans couldn't agree on a consistent direction for the album. In lieu of the new album, the boys announced a live show called A Meeting Of The Mimes (which was supposed to act as their farewell show to be recorded and released). However, a scheduling problem forced the cancellation of the show and signified a rather anticlimactic end to The Deans' career.

Spencer Rodgers (Nov - Dec 2003 // Oct. 2004) Brian - vocals Spencer Rodgers - vocals/guitar Project briefly referred to as 'Rodgers & Erickson' On the last leg of Spencer's last tour, Brian was the stand-in vocalist for Rodgers whose interest in music was quickly fading. This was Brian's coming out party, as he was able to truly showcase his vocal range for the first time. One great Phish cover ("Waste") exists on tape...it's fantastic!

Luck Out (Mar 2004 - Nov 2004) Brian - percussion/guitar/backing vocals Liz Gayder - lead vocals Bill Lambusta - guitar Jay Portizo - bass, keyboards Project originally referred to as 'Grounds For Dismissal' Brian's joined his first "real" band after Bill Lambusta saw him sing on the Spencer Rodgers tour. Content with filling a role, Brian sat behind a conga kit and gave Luck Out the Guster-esque sound that Lambusta had been aiming for. They made their debut at Lunch Box Records' Music Fest in April of 2004 to mixed reviews. By September, the band began rehersing for shows and recording its debut EP, Caution Cable. NJ scene veteran Jay Portizo was brought in to play bass/keys. Practices started getting intense, but two crucial gigs were cancelled which brought morale among the non-lead-singing portion of the band down. On November 5th, 2004 Luck Out took the stage and completely fell apart. The disasterous show, coupled with Brian's developing songwriting chops led to his departure. Portizo quit due soon thereafter due to his rapidly increasing dependency on potato chips and all things couch-related. Bill and Liz continued on for a while but officially called it quits in the Spring of 2005. Caution Cable remains in the vault unfinished. The Liz-Bill-Brian lineup of Luck Out remains on good terms and actually played an open mic show at Coffee Blue in Belmar, NJ on January 4th, 2005 to great review. Despite the strong performance, they will not reunite. Bill and Brian have also talked about revisiting the Caution Cable sessions and trying to finish the EP, but nothing official has been announced yet.
