| Q: why is are you going on this trip? A: so i can see the world before i get old and settled and am too chicken to go to these far-off places you only read about or see on tv. i have the wanderlust- i'm at a point where thinking about traveling makes me giddy, and i can't wait to see how other cultures live. studying in italy was just a taste of the world; i want to see the rest of it now! Q: how can you afford this? A: dang, asia (except for japan!) is waaaay cheaper than the us. on average, you can spend $10 a day including lodging and be just fine. i'm also planning on doing some volunteer work with wwoof and leapnow in exchange for room and board. Q: why are you still going to china? A: at the moment, china is still in my itinerary since i've already paid for it and won't be there till july. i'll re-evaluate my itinerary later and see if it's any safer to go. if not, i'll just pay the penalties and adjust my flights as necessary. Q: how will you keep in touch? A: i'll be bringing my motorola world phone with me and using pre-paid sim cards for each of the countries i'll be in. although that means i'll be changing numbers for each country i'm in, at least i have some way for my family and brice to get ahold of me if necessary. internet cafes are also prominent throughout the rest of the world- so i'll be checking my email fairly often. i also plan on updating my weblog instead of mass emails, so check that too! Q: what do you want to do while you're gone? A: some of the things i'm looking forward to experiencing: eating good food! (like pho IN vietnam!), taking awsome pics i can decorate my place with later, meeting locals of each area to get a better idea of the culture, relax, read, and create memories to last a lifetime. (let me know if you want to meet up with me somewhere- then we can share those memories together when we're old!) |
