After reading the novel A Child Called "It" I thought it was a great story.For a ten year old boy to go through what he went threw he was defintly a strong human being. Especially since he had nobody to talk to or look up to.Dave's mother is an abusive alcoholic who beats and brutally tortures him.
For example, she made Dave sit on the stairs while the rest of the family ate dinner, then makes him clean up in a very short amount of time. If he didn't clean up fast enough, she made him to drink ammonia, which made him go crazy. She feed him just enough to keep him alive.
You would think a ten year old boy would just give up, but Dave just did what he was told and never opened his mouth. I don't know how I would have answered any of these situations if they were to happen to me.
There was one guy in Dave's life who he truely looked up to, his father. His father had no idea at all of what his son was going through. He was the only person who treated Dave like a human being.
You would never imagine the horrible things this child could go through daily. When I read this book, I was shocked. It made me think of how lucky I am to have loving friends and family who never put me down or hit me.
