| "I started on bass in 1982 at the age of 16. My biggest influence at the time was Edward Van Halen, and I felt there had to be a way of intergrating the sonics of the electric guitar with the traditional rhythm-anchoring role of the bass. I started experimenting with tapping, distortion, and tremolo technique - and my playing soon took on a life of it's own, as I discovered that I was able to fill in for a missing rhythm guitar with my technique and rig set-up. I was very fortunate to play with some incredible drummers who helped me refine and perfect my sense of timing and meter - while at the same time being able to make my bass scream. Since I taught myself, I had no one to tell me that this was 'wrong', so my playing is completely the result of my own pursuit of getting everything possible from my bass. It's not for everyone - and I admit it's not 'normal'- but it is completely for me." | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
