The species of Xanth
Here are most of the species wrote up in the Xanth series. I have made a few more species of my own and if you have any ideas for new species to go into this Xanth RPG, e-mail me and we'll talk it over. Mer: half-human/half-fish that inhabit many of the large bodies of water of Xanth. From their middle up they are human, and from the waist down they are fish.
Fauns: male nymphs. The three types are: Dryfauns, Naifauns, and Orefauns.
Dryfauns: male nymphs that are associated with trees.
Naifauns: male nymphs associated with water.
Orefauns: male nymphs of the mountains
Nymphs: female counterparts to Fauns, they are creatures of nature. See Oreads, Naiads, and Dryads.
Dryad: a tree nymph that ages with the tree it lives in. It lives as long as it's tree lives.
Naiad: a water nymph.
Oread: mountain nymph.
Mundane: normal human, no magical talent.
Human (Xanth style): normal human, each one has only one magical talent.
Salamander: a small lizard-like creature that produces a magical fire that burns in the direction it was started, and that nothing can extinguish.
Golem: A construction of inanimate objects animated for a purpose. Grundy the Golem is an example.
Centaur: Centaurs a creature with the torso and head of a man placed on the front of a horse's body. The most educated of the races of Xanth, they are also remarkable archers. They date from about C.B.P. 1800.
Hyppogryph: A winged creature with the forelegs of a lion, the head and wings of an eagle, and the rear of a horse.
Gryphon: A Gryphon is a mythical beast that is usually described as half-eagle, half-lion. The front parts are eagle, plus two pointed ears, and the hind part would be the lion part. A fierce fighter they are also picky eaters and will not eat spoiled meat.
Harpy: There are now are male harpies in Xanth. half human and half vulture. Female's torsos are human with vulture legs while the males are just the opposite.
Roc: A huge bird, with a wingspan of 30 paces that is capable of carrying off an elephant. It is so large that drinking cups can be made of its nails.
Demon/Demoness: immortal beings who generally live beneath Xanth's surface. They come in all kinds and are mostly benign although mischievous.
Pegasus: a winged horse
Unicorn: an equine creature with a single straight horn protruding from its forehead. Untameable, and nearly impossible to capture. Only goes to virgins, if at all.
Sylphs: thin elf-like people.
Vole: medium sized member of the Family of Voles.
Squiggles: a member of the Vole family, they are worm-like animals a little larger than their cousins, the wiggles.
Wiggles: a member of the vole family, it is a small worm-like creature that swarms, then moves out in little bursts of speed, holing anything in the way.
Goblin: a short version of human stock. Because of a curse placed on them centuries before, the male Goblins have evolved to be very ugly and mean, while the females are pretty and sweet. Most Goblin tribes live underground.
Ogre: A large, hideously ugly, and stupendously stupid monster. It is humanoid in shape and is the strongest creature in Xanth. Their females are called Ogress. None are very smart. Tougher than an ironwood tree. Strong as all blazes.
Elf: human-like magical folk who make their homes in Elf Elms. They are organised into tribes such as the Tool Elves and the Flower Elves.
Brassies: citizens of the gourd city, Brassy. The males wear Brassards while the females wear Brassiers. They are made entirely of brass and apologise by kissing.

Curse Fiends: a race of humans that live in Gateway Castle under Lake Ogre-Chobee. They are expert actors, and share the common talent of casting curses. When they all get together, they can cast a very powerful curse.
Gnome: humanoid people who live underground and are about one-third the height of humans. Female Gnomes are called Gnomides.
Day Mare: invisible equines, these horses are the opposite of the Night Mares. They bring the daydreams and pleasant night dreams to people.
Night Mares: equine creatures of the gourd. Under the command of the Night Stallion, they bring bad dreams to people who deserve them. They've been known to even travel into Mundania to deliver their dreams.
Zombie: the walking dead. Dead people, plants, and animals raised up by Magician Jonathan. Zombies usually walk around dropping off pieces of themselves, but can become almost life-like if a living person really cares about them.
