Lucius Cornelius Sulla (138B.C.-78B.C.) was a son of a Patrician who no longer held any power. They were of the Corneli branch. He lived poorly until he got two family inheritances. He then served as Queaster under Gaius Marius and rose up in the ranks. Then he fought against the Germans and had great victories. He then went to Rome and started to go up in political positions. Sulla also became pro-consule to Cilicia. He then went to the Middle East for some time. Then he was sent with some thousands of men to fight the Athenians and the Mithradates. Marius got jealous and sent 15,000 men to destroy Sulla. Surprisingly, the men changed sides and left Marius' General to commit suicide. Sulla then marched to Rome with 40,000 men and took Rome. He overthrough Marius and became dictator. |
