Calling in a Buck

When calling in a buck try not to overuse the call whether it be a doe bleat or a buck grunt. Try to call him in slowly and always make sure you now what you are shooting at. Antler rattles are a very good way to call in a buck especially in the rut when bucks tend to fight over does. Make sure to give your rattle antlers a nice good practice before trying them out in the field. You can also make your own rattle antlers by taking two peices of wood and making dents in them and make sure some are bigger than the other ones to make a more authentic sound.

Bagging The Big One

Its that riveting moment when the big one walks out in front of your stand and you aim your shot. BANG did you hit it you hope so right? Well a sure way to no is to wait for the perfect shot dont get trigger happy and just shoot. Stay calm and wait. If the open shot doesn't come try your calls and maybe he will come back around. When that big one comes out try not to move to much because he could catch your movement and run, so move as slow as you can and try not to make to much noise. If you give your bleat or rutting call a beep he will probably stop. This is the perfect time to take your shot. You just better make sure your shot will be fatal so you wont have to chase him and try to shoot again. After shooting the big one watch where he goes and then wait a little bit to give him time to die and let his adrenaline stop flowing. Sometimes a deer's adrenaline will keep him alive for longer so give him time to calm down. Then go and retrieve your buck.
