Performing for the royalties

On July 14, 1999, Bobbie Eakes performed at the Victoria Day Concert in Sweden, which is held in honor of Crown Princess Victoria's birthday every year. Besides Bobbie, many other Swedish and international artists were present, including Eurovision Song Contest winner Charlotte Nilsson, Roger Pontare, Anders Ekborg, Babsan, The Navigators, Avec, Peter Lundblad, Linda Lampenius and B&B co-stars Ian Buchanan (James) and Susan Flannery (Stephanie).

The event started with the arrival of the Swedish Royal Family. It was Crown Princess Victoria's birthday, so she received a gift from the hands of the hosts. After Princess Victoria held a short speech and presented a prize to Swedish swimmer Lars Frolander, the concert started.

One of the first highlights of the event was the performance of Ian Buchanan and Susan Flannery with "Babsan," a Dame Edna kind of character. After performances by, among others, Charlotte Nilsson, Linda Lampenius, and Anders Ekborg, it was Bobbie's turn. The host of the event announced that this was going to be a surprise performance, by two completely contrasting performers: Roger Pontare and Bobbie Eakes. Roger was desribed as a rough guy from Norrland in the North of Sweden, and Bobbie as the glamorous Hollywood actress and singer. Together, they sang "Heaven's Just a Step Away," the duet Bobbie previously recorded with B&B actor John McCook.

After singing the duet with Roger, Bobbie congratulated Princess Victoria on her birthday, in Swedish. She had written the words on her finger, but they had faded. With a little help from the host of the event, she completed the sentence in Swedish. Then, she sang her single "A Broken Wing," from her solo album "Here and Now." ("More than Words" is the U.S. version that will be released in the near future.)

After Bobbie finished her song, several other artists performed. At the end of the event, all the artists came back on stage again, and sang a final song. Princess Victoria also joined them, and received a small statue from the hands of Ian Buchanan, on behalf of the Bold and Beautiful cast and crew.
