2003 Emmy tidbits

SUSAN FLANNERY won for the second straight year, and this is the third Emmy she has earned for the role of Stephanie Forrester, which she originated when the show began in 1987. What keeps her going after so many years as the Forrester matriarch? "I just love doing it and it's a really great, great group to work with," she praised. "I'm very, very fortunate."

Susan Flannery won her third Emmy for her portrayal of Stephanie Forrester. It is kind of overwhelming, she admitted. It's very nice. Believe me, the thrill doesn't go away. Ask any racehorse that gets across the finish line first.

As the cast of The Bold and the Beautiful enjoyed an airy lunch in the penthouse of Morgans Hotel, four-time Emmy winner Susan Flannery (Stephanie) claimed a familiar perch behind the camera to grill reporters (including me!) for their strategies of getting an award-winning story. Her onscreen son, Ronn Moss (Ridge) charmed the European press in tow by revealing his favorite financial indulgence. "I like guitars." Moss's extensive collection includes his prized possession, a 1935 Gibson acoustic guitar. "The intonation and the way it plays is like butter," he dreamily described. "Its sound affects me emotionally. It's an heirloom that I want my girls to have."

Susan Flannery (Stephanie) has always called her fellow nominees on the day that the nominations were announced. "I said to them, This is the nicest time, because before they open up the envelope, were all winners and everybody is so happy for you," Susan explained. "It sort of establishes a sort of camaraderie and I really kind of owe that first nomination to Kim Zimmer (Reva; Guiding Light). Well, I think I do. Kim was so gracious that year at the Soap Opera Digest awards when she won for Best Actress. When Kim got up and made her speech, she was so gracious about me and all the things that she had to say and I think that really steered a lot of people toward voting that year for me."

Susan was delighted that B&B was finally acknowledged with the Best Show nomination. "The show is very modern. Its very contemporary," Susan pointed out. "We dont walk around with people having guns out of their pocket. Its really based on true emotional conflict and Bradley [Bell] just moves it along. If a story isnt working, he moves through it until he connects with the audience and they get pulled into. He moves at a very fast pace."

It was no surprise when Susan Flannery took home the Daytime Emmy award for the third time for her B&B role as matriarch Stephanie Forrester. "[We submitted] the scenes with Adrienne (Frantz) when she lost the baby goes to the hospital and talks to her," Susan said. "The scenes with Katherine (Kelly Lang; Brooke) and Sean (Kanan, Deacon), where she finds out that he is the father of Brookes child. They were really well written and Sean is a really good actor and Katherine -- well, you know I think Katherine is just superb."
