Eric breaks it off

After Ridge annulled his marriage to Brooke and after Bridget had just returned home from running away, Stephanie berated Brooke for hiding the truth about Thomas from Ridge. She, Brooke, had no one else to blame but herself (which is the truth). But Stephanie was really furious and really let a hurting Brooke have it. Eric overheard and wasn�t happy at all. He was sick of defending Stephanie to his other family all the time. So he decided to break their engagement off.

Eric told Stephanie this and she was of course devastated and asked why he would do this. He told her that he had no chiose. Even though he never wanted to hurt her, he had to. The animosity between Brooke and Stephanie that caused the family so much pain was killing him.

He admitted that she was a part of him just like he was a part of her, but he just couldn�t marry her. It was over between them. Stephanie just cried and asked him not to do it. But he did. He walked out on her and hooked up with Lauren.
