You know what they say, two's company... Despite the fact that Jackie Payne (Lesley-Anne Down) recently accepted Massimo's marriage proposal, Eric Forrester (John McCook) continues to warn Jackie about Massimo's manipulative nature. "He thinks it's a very big mistake for her," explains John McCook. "He thinks that she's falling into a teenage girl's fantasy of what she experienced with him when she was very young. She had a 10-minute relationship with him. Eric thinks this is a very big mistake for Jackie and that she's subscribing to her girlish dream of being married to the father of her son." Eric has many reasons to despise Massimo, after all Massimo walked into his world and turned it upside down when he became determined to tell everyone that he, and not Eric, was Ridge's biological father. "Eric hates and absolutely despises Massimo for who he is and what kind of a man he is and what he's done to my family," says John. In one blow, Eric lost his firstborn son and his wife Stephanie, who he couldn't forgive for keeping such a secret from him. "That he's [Massimo] had a 40-year correspondence with Stephanie that I didn't know about. That's something that Eric hasn't thrown in Stephanie's face."
Adding insult to injury, Eric was in the process of developing romantic feelings for Jackie when he found out Massimo and Jackie were engaged. It's unlikely that Eric will give up yet another thing that is precious to him to his archrival Massimo without a fight. "He's frightened for her," notes John. "That's what's good about it. There's an adult thing going on here. It's not like we slept together and now she's going to marry somebody else. We haven't done that. That's not what this is about. This is about, 'What are you doing and oh, by the way, you could have a very wonderful life with me. I'm attracted to you and I think you're beautiful and smart.
