Part I

Kerry walked into work feeling real happy. She was expecting, and Sandy was being real helpful with it. As she was leaving Sandy was fixing up the babys room. Kerry was sure things were finally going to fall into place for her.

As she walked to admit she noticed everyone giving her strange looks. She pulled Randi aside and asked her what the big secret was. Randi bounced the question back at her. I have never seen you so happy Weaver. Did someone die?

Weaver just grinned bigger. Just then a trauma came in and she rushed off to save another life.

Sandy sat at home crying. She was just not sure of everything that was happening. She knew she loved Kerry. She felt great when she was around her, but why did she insist on them having kids. She just didnt know how they were going to handle a kid. They both had very stressful jobs. The child would end up in day care half the time. They would not even be raising her themselves. With Kerry so happy she just didnt know how to bring it up.

Kerry had been at the hospital for 5 hours and her happiness had been put aside due to the rush of patients. As she finally sat for lunch she noticed a stabbing pain in her stomach. She thought for a moment about the contents of her lunch then it hit her. She dumped her lunch and left the lounge. She was in search of an empty room. She hoped to do a quick exam of her underclothes just to inspect for any blood. As she was looking for a room Corday spotted her, Oh Kerry hi, um I hate to say anything but it seems youve had an accident. She says as she points to Kerrys pants.

Kerry looks down, a very crumpled look on her face, she looks up to Corday could you help me. I am trying to be discreet, but it appears I am not.

Corday quickly understands the situation and leads Kerry to an empty room. She gives her some gowns to change into. I am just going to get a few things that you will need. Dont worry about anyone coming in I will sign this room out to an unnamed patient.

As Corday exited Kerry began to change. Thoughts began to run thru her head about what all this meant. After she changed and got comfortable on the bed she decided she must call Sandy. She could not stand the thought that she was at home right now fixing up a room for a baby that was dying.

Kerry dialed the number and Sandy picked up, Sandy? Recognizing the voice Kerry what are you calling for, change your mind about the paint again? I told ya I already got the colors picked out and bought and you cant change it. Kerry let out a sigh Sandy things are not going well. I believe I am having a miscarriage. I need you to come down here please. A long silence follows. Sandy are you there?
Yeah its just that I have to be to work in an hour. Is it possible to get someone to bring you home?
Sandy do you understand what I am going thru? I am having a miscarriage and I need you with me.
Kerry I am sorry but I just dont know if I can do that. Its too hard. I love you, but I was not to excited about this baby to begin with. I dont know if I can comfort you the way you need me to. Maybe its for the best.

Sandy how can you say that, after how much I told you I wanted this, how can you say its for the best?

Kerry like I said I dont think I am the best person to be there for you right now. I am sorry.

Kerry let the phone slip from her hand. Just like that everything was falling apart. This was her last chance at having a kid, and along with the kid her girlfriend was drifting away real fast. Was this why she came out just to be beat down? Tears began to flow from her eyes.

Just then Corday entered the room with an ultrasound machine, and other odds and ends. Kerry tried to cover up the tears but it was too late.

Was this a planned pregnancy? Corday asked Forgive me if you dont want to talk, I just feel awkward when working on a patient and there is no gander. Kerry thought for a minute then decided she needed someone right now, and if it was not going to be Sandy then Corday was as good as any.
I thought it was
Corday raised an eyebrow Well I hate to say it but that does not make too much sense, if your going to talk about it do you mind clarifying?

Another sigh from Kerry, Well I had wanted a kid and thought Sandy was the same, but it seems I was being a bit pushy. Apparently she was just going along with it for me.

Corday takes a seat by the bed. She has a very sympathetic look on her face. I am sure its just the shock of you telling her what happened. No, she is not coming. I said I needed her and she is not coming. Again Kerry breaks out in tears. This time Corday reaches over and holds her while she cries. Corday feels drawn to Kerry. She feels great respect for this lady who is always so in charge. She feels she is finally breaking down walls by seeing her so vulnerable.

A couple hours later Corday comes to check on Weaver. Seeing that she is ready to be discharged she signs the papers. With a heartbreaking look she says, Dont worry Kerry the worst is over.

Part II

Kerry sat in bed not knowing exactly what to do next. She could not face Sandy right now. Pondering what Corday had said. The worst was over, if she only knew. Kerry did not want to go home, but did not really have anyone to turn to. She decided to take a chance. She pushed the button to page the main desk.

Randi heard the buzz, Hey who forgot to put their patient on the board? she yelled. She answered the buzz but no one would respond.

Dr Weaver? She was startled as she entered the room, I was not aware you were here as a patient.

No one is Randi and I would like to keep it that way, could you get me Dr Corday please?

Well she is on a lunch right now, can I get someone else for you? Are you ok?

I am fine Randi, but please just get me Corday when she comes back, and lets keep this between us. I dont want rumors flying before I get a chance to explain. No chance of me speaking of this to anyone here she thought to herself.

No problem Randi said.

Kerry decided to rest her eyes while she waited. She was asleep when Corday walked into the room.

Elizabeth was due in surgery ASAP, but had heard that Kerry was asking for her. When she walked in and saw her asleep she did not want to wake her, but figured she would prefer to sleep at home. KerryKerry?

The exhausted red heads eyes began to flutter. Oh Dr Corday, sorry I was just resting my eyes.

I am sorry to wake you, you looked so peaceful, but I thought you might want to get home and sleep in your own bed. Randi said you were looking for me.

Oh yes, well um you see, I guess I am not really ready to home to my own bed, if you know what I mean. I was wondering if I could get a bed somewhere to stay the night.

Well Kerry you are well enough to go home, am I to understand that you want me to break the rules and get you a bed? Corday was giving Kerry a sly grin. After thinking a moment she turned to the lady with a sympathetic look Ill do you one better, why dont you come stay at my place. I have an extra room, and that way no one here will have to find out.

That would be great, thanks for everything Elizabeth.

No problem Kerry, I have been feeling bad about how I treated you during the whole competency thing with Mark. I am glad I had the chance to help you. Let me just go pull some strings and I will take you home.
