| "I could write a song about a shoe and that wouldn't mean that I'm any less of a Christian I could write a good shoe song too" Its not really about us, you know? Our name, Plus One, is representative of its us plus God. Not us plus us. Doin our performance thang Its a matter of staying spiritually grounded in the face of money, fame, girls, whatever comes our way. Id say Nate is the guy whos surprised by everything. Hes always got this mischevious smirk. You sit there going, Wait a second! Wait a second! (on seeing famous people) I look forward to having a family and Id also like to get into music production. I wanna perform as long as I can, but Im open to Gods will after that. We want to be able to relate to them and tell kids to find what theyre good at, find what God has blessed them with, and to use their talents. I have Proverbs 18:12 taped to my phone because it makes me think every time I turn my phone on. It says, Before his downfall a mans heart is proud, but humility comes before honor. "Well mineNothing really bad yet knock on wood, on the tour though in the beginning of the show we have robes off and were supposed to throw them back, but it got caught on my mic so Im just swinging the robe around my arm. (on his embarrassing moment on stage.) Sometimes Im insecure about my lips being chapped. I was planning on starting a boyband choir by getting all the boybands together and making one big choir, no just kidding. No I think that everyone is really secure in our identity as a band and what were doing right now, and were just enjoying it. So nobody is really planning anything else right now. Down the road we might get into production and things like that. I want to act, but right now were enjoying it. (on future career plans) Its the sunglassesdoes it EVERY time, YEAH! Were singing for Al Gore, doing a little America the Beautiful. You miss me?really?. I lost my ID. Thats something that I kind of misshaving a church home. (on the worst) Hes awesome.(on working with David Foster) I like penguins. I have penguin pajamas. Umwe have timeouts, No, for the most part, were never really had to work at getting along with each other, we have fun, we get along. Like normal family type situations, were like brothers. Everyone is really good at voicing opinions if theres a problem or not. (on what happens when they get annoyed with each other.) We are taking over the isle of Fiji." I wanted to dress up like a penguin last year for Halloween. Our name, Plus One, is what we want to sayits us, plus God. We know we cant do anything without Him, and we want Him to be a part of everything we do, both musically and in our personal daily walks. The Promise is the title of our album, and that promise is that Hes always there, and He will never leave you. When times are hard, or if youre going through some struggle, you can turn to so many things. There are so many negative things out there right now, but you know that God will always meet you right where youre at and Hes big enough to handle all your problems. The consistent theme in our album is that you can trust God. You can put your trust in Him. and He wants to be someone that you can trust in, and He wants to love you. He wants to be able to talk to you, and we do that through prayer and reading the Bible. Its neat to get that done with the album, and to have all these songs that we knew we would sing and that it would come from our hearts. Its up to us to be about our message and present our message and try to be about it, but people are going to see the outward image first and hopefully they will look deeper" Ive enjoyed traveling and meeting a lot of different people and seeing the county and performing. Recording an album, which is something you think you will never get an opportunity to do, and then it happens I think you have to go as far as the Christian market, you have to [watch what you so and say more]. It is what you have signed up to represent, but at the same time you have to be true to yourself and true to your feelings on different issues. I think for most part with certain Christian media you answer things differently, but weve tried to be ourselves no matter who were talking too. "I was in college at Southwest Missouri State University and received a call from someone who had seen me sing. I [wasn't interested] at first because I was skeptical about the whole thing. After the call, I went upstairs and tried to go back to sleep, but I couldn't. I knew God was saying this was an open door I should just go through. So I called the guy back and had him explain the details. I flew out to San Francisco and that's what happened. " "We do eggs, macaroni and cheese...and we know how to "cook" cereal" We want to be able to relate to them and tell kids to find what theyre good at, find what God has blessed them with, and to use their talents. I have Proverbs 18:12 taped to my phone because it makes me think every time I turn my phone on. It says, Before his downfall a mans heart is proud, but humility comes before honor. "The past few months have been pretty steady. If we are not doing shows, then it is probably traveling to get to the next gig. Right now, it is promotions and shooting videos and things like that. We don't have a lot of time off, but when we have a day off, it's time to rest. Hang out with friends. Go see a movie. Read. Write." "I definitely think that's a testament to our vocal blend. When we first moved in together, all we would do was just sit around and sing. Through time, that's something that becomes more natural. One thing we all noticed from the beginning was [that] vocally, we all bring something very unique, yet very similar as far as tones. It was kind of neat how it worked out. Nathan sings the high end of stuff. Gabe Combs sings the lower end, a lot of the bass stuff. Then Jason, Nate, and I usually do in-between, with me doing a lot of the mid stuff, as far as harmonies. That's just another instance where we see how God picked the people he wanted to be in -- vocally, looks, musically, everything." "Not really. We've gone to lots of shows where I think that a lot of people were not necessarily there in the beginning for us, and by the end of the show there were people that would come through the autograph line and say,"I didn't know who you guys were, I wasn't necessarily coming to see you guys, but I have your album now." I think that our audience that wants it and our album sales and the support that we have from all of our fans shows that this is what people want to hear." (Question: Has it been a big challenge in the past year to try to overcome the "boy band" image?) "Every time, man!" "We did a show called the Jingle Ball in Sacremento. I would say it was definitely up there as one of the most memorable performances, because it was at the Arco Arena, lots of people there, huge show. We got to meet other artists on the bill, like Brian McKnight, Boyz II Men. That was just like very cool to meet them. I mean, you're dressing room is right down the hall! It was really weird. Established artists that we listened to growing up. That was...tight!" "I want to be in an action drama and would like to play the shady character"( on what kind of movie he'd like to be in) ""I was really independent when I was younger. I even rebelled against my parents and Christianity. But there came a point when I stopped rebelling and started accepting the ideas I'd been told all my life. I started believing them in my heart. God's given all of us the opportunity to minister through this band. He's opened doors and allowed us to use our talents. I want to utilize it as best as I can" "Something that's not planned, something that's spontaneous, decided at the last minute. Definitely a good dinner and good scenery." (his idea of an ideal date) No, I'm not into that. To the guys in the band maybe. If I'm asked maybe, but I won't go out of my way to just feel like "Guess what?" (Question: Would You Kiss and Tell?) "Im 21 also and uhh I grew up singing. Just like my family, my mom, her side of the family was always singing around the house and stuff. I mean I pretty much grew up around it and I got serious about it when I got to highschool and found out that like colleges would actually pay money for you to go and sing. So I was like alright." "Yeah Nathan tries to play pranks on everyone. Like the other night he tried to hide in the bottom of my bunk when I got in it at night. But the only bad thing was that as I opened up my curtain to get in my bunk I turned on the light and I saw the blanket move a little and Nathan jumps all out and tries to scare me. But instead like going Boo or yelling he started barking at me! And I was like dude what are you doing?!?" "It's ironic sometimes. when you do a show, there'll be tons of people there who want your autorgraph. when you get back on the bus it's quiet....just you and the guys again." "My life long goal is to carry out God's plan and to be in his will, and musically I wanna be the best vocalist I can possibly be." "You went down there and took pictures of it" |
