Scene opens in Doug’s hospital room.
Doug: (Groaning)
Mark:
Hey buddy. How are you
feeling?
Doug:
Mark? What happened?
Mark:
You were waiting over on the
corner of Deerbourne and Clark for Carol and there was a hit-and-run…
Doug:
I don’t remember the hit-and-run
but I know I was waiting for Carol but she never showed up…How could this
have happened Mark? This was supposed to be my wedding day.
And I STILL don’t know where Carol is!
Mark: (Calmly)
Relax Doug…she’s here.
She said she was going to come see you once you were awake.
Doug:
How am I doing by the way?
Mark:
Well you’ve got a compound
fracture to your right tib-fib that was repaired in surgery, a concussion,
and 3 broken ribs.
Doug:
Wow, no wonder why I’m aching
all over, my head is pounding.
Mark:
Yah well, that will get better
as you rest. I’ll go tell Carol you’re awake all right?
Doug:
Good! I want to see my
fiancé!
Mark:
All right, all right, you just
rest.
Doug:
Yes Sir!

Scene opens as Mark finds Carol down in the ER lounge sleeping.
Mark: (Gently shaking her awake)
Carol, hey Carol
(Carol opens her eyes)
Hey…Doug’s awake and asking
for you.
Carol:
Mark? There’s something
I was going to tell Doug before I told you, but I’ve been thinking about
it, and I don’t know if I should even tell him at all.
Mark:
I’m not sure I follow.
Does this have something to do with why you didn’t meet him last night?
Carol:
Yah…you know how I was doing
my paramedic ride along today right?
(Mark nods)
Well, me and the paramedic,
Greg Powell, were just talking and all of a sudden…we kissed. That’s
as far as it went. But what I can’t believe is that after all Doug
put me through, that I’m doing the same thing to him. I know he’s
going to think this is all just revenge, and now with him hurt should I
tell him at all?
Mark:
Whoa, hold on a second Carol,
you really need to tell Doug because you yourself know too well what it’s
like to hear things through the rumor mill.
Carol:
I know. I’m going to
tell him, I’m just not sure when yet. Right now all I care is about
how he is doing, I was so worried about him!
Mark:
Go on and see him Carol, he
was worried about YOU too!
