"Instead of not knowing whether or not to dance to the sound of a sledgehammer hitting an oil drum, people finally found solace in a type of music that was still dark & harsh, yet dancey." Branched from Industrial. Artists: Nitzer Ebb,DAF, Front 242, (early) Front Line Assembly, Klinik, etc. |
| IDM: "Intelligent Dance Music" Typically made up of intensely complex rythmic structure intended to get your mental juices flowing. Created for the sole purpose of exploring the music, in itself, without attaching and intellectual or emotional ideas. Minimalism-The minimalist composer attempts to convey the very most with the very least amount of musical elements. Usually includes repeated patterns of various duration, volume, & speed, that pulse, phase, fade, or maintain steady throughout the song. | AMBIENT: Environmental. Mimics or enhances the sounds of everyday life. May be rythmic & melodic but does not necissarily have to be. Some branches from Ambient include DARK AMBIENT, intended to disturb rather than sooth & DARKWAVE which is basically to New Wave what Dark Ambient is to Ambient, in my opinion. |
| TECHNO & HOUSE: Basically both Techno & House are forms of Electronica except that Techno grew out of German Experimental Synth music (such as Kraftwerk), early Hip Hop & Electro-Funk, while House grew out of Disco & basically has a 4/4 beat on top of which many other sounds are added, intended to make you dance! |
| TRANCE: Repetitive & droning. Usually building towards a climax. Similar to Techno & House in concept, but without the bleeps & bloops. A Similar form to Ambient. One of the most known Trance artists is Paul Oakenfold. Some branching Genres are: Goa, Psytrance & Progressive. |
