Delta

Long ago and far away
Twenty-two began a brand new day.
They wanted more than just a social life
They desired to be more than just a wife.
These twenty-two had a larger vision
And that soon caused them great division.
Some went left, but most went Right
And strove to reach a higher light.

They wanted to make a better place
And give their children a broader space
To expand their minds and their hearts
And give to the world the best parts
Of being Intelligent, Female, and Black.
T
hese twenty-two started the forward motion
But theirs was just the tip of this Delta notion
They gave the foundation and an example to follow
They made it strong and solid, not hollow.
Their legacy remains as a directional arrow
And the time is now to release the sparrow
To fly free and soar to heights unknown
But she must never travel alone.
Along with her sisters the job gets done.
Along with her SORORS the battle is
Won.

One True Delta

A Woman of love, peace, and happiness
With a passionate, burning dream
To become one of the women
Who wears the Crimson and Cream

Her heart, like the elephant
Is as strong as can be
While, like the pyramid, she has three sides
One side for them, one side for you,
And always one side for me

Her love for DST
Was evident from the start
When asked why be a Delta?
She said, "It's just in my heart!"

With the wind to her back
And God's presence there just the same
Her dream reached reality
And a Delta she became

So she will wear the Crimson and Cream
And it will be there to stay
Because she will be "One True Delta"
Until her last dying day

AND GOD SAID

I`ll make a woman, a woman of essence
A woman of pride, a woman who is capable
Of putting trivial things a side
A woman of individuality
A woman of love,
A woman who is enfranchised
With the pearls from above
A woman who is genuine,
A leader of integrity,
God said...
I`ll make me a
REAL woman, I`ll call her
DST
A SISTER'S LOVE

There is nothing better than a sister's love,
She knows exactly what to say and what you are thinking of.

A sister will be there in your time of need,
When you go astray, down the right path she will lead.

A sister will be an ear when you need someone to talk to,
She will be a shoulder to cry on when you are feeling blue.

A sister's love will never die,
The kind of love shared between you and I.

Sisterhood

What does Delta Sigma Theta mean to me?
Let me think-what can it be
laughter, Smiles and Sisters, too
Brand new friendships that are so true

The good times I know have just begun
Already is seems to be such fun
It's hard to put into words I know
Since the feelings aren't always easy to show
Delta Sigma Theta-in words I can only think of one that's the best and that is LOVE
The more I put in the more I see how much Delta Sigma Theta means to me.
Delta Dream
I dream about a Love so Strong,
I fantasize the Circle Songs.

I imagine a Bond that Spans the Globe,
I'd wear the Crimson and Cream Robe.

I Dream the Dream that Sisters do,
to Walk amongst the Twenty-Two.

To sit atop the Pyramid,
and Dream the Dreams Naomi did.

When I Awaken from this Mood,
I see Myself as Fortitude.

The Message that this Dream has sent
to Proudly Ride the Elephant.

And Send to You My Love Soror
for You to Dream as I've Before.

Sister

By Libya BaaQar

It is you my sister that I have come to know.
It is you my sister who has grown so close.
What spirit of goodness do you contain?
How talented you are,
Baring no shame.
I am mesmerized by the intellect of your mind.
You are a community helper,
A gift to mankind.
So to you my sister
I gratefully stand back.
It's the Delta in you
That has everyone tilting their hats.

The Delta Woman

Lovely creature
Hand made by God
Smooth-spoken woman
Modeling and serving
She is conspicuous as a growing seed
She is solid as a rock
She is as wayfaring as an ant
She stirs, serves, and hastes on.

Lovely creature
Hand-made by God
Smooth-spoken woman
Constant and valiant
Come wind, come rain
Comes no discouragement
She is relentless
Her vowed intent
She is a strong woman!

Lovely creature
Hand-made by God
Smooth-spoken woman
No task will she flee
This is right, for you see,
She is a Delta!

Lovely creature
Hand-made by God
Smooth-spoken woman
No hobglobin nor foul fiend
Can daunt her fine spirit.
So, she labors night and day;
Being ever true to herself,
Being ever true to Delta!
Delta Sigma Theta

I am divine,
Gently graceful, yet elusively powerful.
The blood of queens flows through my veins.
My ancestors ruled the ancient kingdoms of Africa with
wisdom unfathomable.
The dream in colors of cream and crimson.
I am the living dream of my ancestors.
In the company of my sisters, I serve other selflessly,
The spirit of our glorious founders guides me,
Their light shines within me ever so brightly.
I am the living dream of my founders.
A lady of true wisdom, you will find none greater.
Make way for this dynamic woman of Delta Sigma Theta

Do You Just Belong?

Are you an active member
The kind that you would be missed?
Or are you just contented
That your name is on the list?

Do you attend the meetings and
Mingle with the flock?
Or do you just stay at home
to criticize and knock?

Do you take an active part
to help the work along?
Or are you satisfied
To only just belong?

Do you work with your committee
And get right in and mix?
Or leave the work to just a few
And talk about the "CLIQUES"?

Think this over MEMBER-----------
You know right from wrong!
Are you an active member
or DO YOU JUST BELONG?"

Delta Ducky Style
Nicole Ward

My Crimson and Cream
is every woman's dream
it's made the world brighter since 19-13
the others stand and wait
and watch all a while
they just can't recreate
that DELTA DUCKY STYLE

This chant was performed by Zeta Mu's step team at the NPHC '97 step show

A DELTA IS . . .

DIVINE
ELEGANT a
LADY
TRUE &
AFFECTIONATE

SUPREME
INTELLIGENT
GRACEFUL
MINDFUL &
ASSERTIVE

THOUGHTFUL
HONORABLE
EXCEPTIONAL
TERRIFIC &
ADORABLE

DELTAS ARE SIMPLY WONDERFUL,

MARVELOUS, ASTONISHING, AND SENSATIONAL.

- Erica Hubbard

Some are Ladies, Others are Women
Nicole Ward

Some girls are born Ladies, looking for society's approval
While others are born WOMEN, capable of manipulating their own destinies

Some ladies desire to fit into a stereotype,
While women, like Winnie Mandela, are LEADERS, blazing the trail for others to follow,

Some ladies are shy and timid
Whereas WOMEN like Nikki Giovanni, aren't afraid to openly speak their mind,

Some ladies dream
But WOMEN like Patricia Harris, and Shirley Chisholm dare to do more,

Some ladies die in the forgotten memories of history,
While WOMEN like Mary McLeod Bethune, Wilma Rudolph and Barbara Jordan live on,

Some girls pledge sororities,
But WOMEN pledge Delta Sigma Theta

Never settle for just being a "lady"...

A Delta woman has the ambition to follow through on her dreams

A Delta woman learns to work with what she has and strives to achieve more

A Delta woman has a heart of courage, a soul filled with integrity, and a mind full of knowledge

A Delta woman is a woman of Life

A Delta woman is life

By: Candace Crenshaw
It takes a lot to be a true Delta woman.

A Delta woman always has a heart full of Compassion, a spirit full of Charity  and a mind of Integrity.

A Delta woman carries herself with the most supreme appearance - her skin smooth as a Baby Girl, hair Silky as a Black Barbie, eyes bright as a Diamond, a smile too good even for Kodak, and a style with so much Flava that's it looks like she stepped out of a Fortune 500 magazine.

A Delta woman has a poise of Golden Silence so Nonchalant, that without saying a word, brothers can tell she's about business  - so either get to The Point or Back Up!

A Delta woman can adjust to any situation she's in - whether it's attending a Concerto, struttin' down the Soultrain line at a party or holding a conversation with a person with an IQ of 32.

A Delta woman comes in all shapes and colors - from a China Doll to a Morena.

A Delta woman is an Analytical woman.  She seeks Clarity in every situation and is Affirmative about the decisions she makes.

A Delta woman is a Renaissance woman.  A journey with her is like an Odyssey experience.

A Delta woman is a woman with Christian principles at heart.  She has the voice of a Songbird to praise the Lord, the spirit of a Peace Maker and a heart full of Temperance.

A Delta woman is a Showstopper  when she enters a room with the charm of a Southern Belle, even with her Country Style there's a Sweet Thang about her that no man can resist.

A Delta woman understands the importance of Sweet Order.  She's a Regulator  that knows how to Proctor, is able to be impartial, and is always the chosen Mediator.

A Delta woman is always privy to others envy of her.  There will always be someone hatin' or Muggin - not realizing that their envy is Reinforcement that she is as phenomenal as she already thinks she is.

A Delta woman is a diva in all aspects.  Her demeanor is a Mirage blinding others to the Silent Assassin that lies within.

A Delta woman comes from a Legacy of Queens and Kings, yet this Lil Mama is able to bring on the funk of Parliament, blaze like a Ghetto Superstar and Twirk a little something just for fun.

There is nothing like a true, Bonafide Delta Woman!
