History
On October 22, 1989, a group of women gather at the Chicano Native American Cultural Center to form an organization of Latina women at the University of Iowa.  Their goal was to form a group that would provide social and academic support to Latinas and women of all cultures.

After a lot of work and dedication, the Panhellenic Council at the University of Iowa recognized Sigma Lambda Gamma as a sorority on April 9, 1990.  This is the day that Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority recognizes as their Founding date.

Today, Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority has chapters all over the United States varying from New York to Texas and Florida to California.  Our members have recognized the need for togetherness and support among women of al cultures at their universities and colleges and are dedicated to the overall success of women throughout the world.

In the Fall of 1991, Micaela Escamilla began communication with Noemi Diaz, who was the president of Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority at the time.  Micaela also got in contact with Isabel Rodriguez to she if she could help form the sorority and together they began to spread the word to other women on campus.

In November 1991, a meeting took place for those women interested in starting a chapter of Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority on campus.  These women were Irene Cirilo, Marissa Cruz, Micaela Escamilla, Renne Hernandez, Heather Lynes, Isabel Rodriguez, and Julie Zimmerman.  However, by the end of April 1992 many of these women departed.  So, after the summer break a search for women with a true desire was made.  In August 1992, a new intrest group was created consisting of: Irene Cirilo, Sabrina Canalas, Micaela Escamilla, Isabel Rodriguez, and Sandra Sierra.

On November 3, 1992, they held the first official meeting in the Bovee University Center's lobby, in which colony status requirments were disscussed.  In February 1993, future goals were discussed and  all written requirments for colony status were brought forth and sent to the University of Iowa.  On April 8, 1993, we were recognized by the University of Iowa as an official colony of Sigma Lambda Gamma Sorority, Inc.  In the summer of 1993, these women stayed near campus to bond in sisterhood.

In October of 1993 these four women Sabrina Canalas, Irene Cirilo, Micaela Escamilla, and Sandra Sierra were inducted into Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority.

A meeting took place in February 1994 for those women who were interested in continuing the dream and these women were soon inducted Juana Arroyo, Belinda Castillo, Jessica Garcia, Chantel Henry, Sonia Hernandez, and Rachel Nihart.  During this time Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority awarded the women of Central Michigan University Epsilon Chapter in April of 1994.  Thus creating the strong bond we share at Exquisite Epsilon Chapter here at Central Michigan University.
