New Garden Book Wins National Award
Danielson, CT -- May 15 2002 -- Byron and Laurelynn Martin, co-authors of Logee's Spectacular Container Plants, won first place in the Independent Publisher's Book Award. In competition with 1200 books in the home and garden category with submissions from 765 publisher's, their book was chosen for its outstanding photographs, layout and written content.
"We are honored and pleased to receive such a prestigious acknowledgement," said Byron Martin, third generation owner of Logee's Greenhouses. "We've been in business since 1892, and I tend to forget that the 110 years of accumulated knowledge has value to those who haven't grown up in horticulture."
Logee's Spectacular Container Plants was showcased at the Book Expo of America in New York City this month, where the award was announced.
"As a writer, I'm thrilled that the award was not only based on our beautiful pictures but also on our ability to take a complex subject, exotic and tropical plants and communicate clearly how to grow these dramatic flowers," said Laurelynn Martin.
Earlier this spring, the Martins completed a book tour with lectures at the Philadelphia Flower show and the National Arboretum in Washington, DC.
