Merry and Pippin put on berets, give themselves pencil goatees, Merry grabs an accordion, Pippin grabs a violins, and both don French accents.

Merry:
Do you remember the good years in the Shire?
The summers were endlessly gold.

Pippin: Mais oui!

Merry:
The fields were a patchwork of clover.

Pippin: All over!

Merry:
The winters were never too cold
We'd stroll down ol' Bagshot together
And everything 'round us was fine.

Pippin:
Now a war's about to start
But Treebeard says we won't take part
And worst of all, there isn't any wine

Both:
Those Shire days we used to know
Where have they gone, where did they go?
Eh bien, raise your berets
To those Shire days.

Pippin:
Do you remember those wonderful parties?
Like Bilbo's, out under the tree
The food and the brew and the fireworks
The best from the White Downs to Bree.

Merry:
It's funny, but since we've left Buckland
We've gone to the other extreme...

Pippin:
We only get one breakfast now.

Merry:
No time for eating anyhow
'Cause eating on the run will make you green.

Both:
Those Shire days we used to know
Where have they gone, where did they go?
Eh bien, raise your berets
To those Shire days.

Pippin:
It's funny but since we left Buckland
We've gone to the other extreme.

Merry:
We look back on those days so glad
This fighting stuff is really bad.

Pippin:
We really miss those strawberries and cream!

Both:
Those Shire days we used to know,
Where have they gone, where did they go?
Eh bien, raise your berets
To those Shire days.

Eh bien, raise your berets
To those Shire days!
