"A Vampire's Journal" Part 2
Family Ties
(Note: The following story contains graphic language and some violence. Reader discretion is advised)
January 1, 2000
I waited for her outside; she came out around two in the morning and walked up the street with me right behind her.
She didnt live too far, but by the time she got to her apartment she was cold; I could hear her teeth rattle.
I waited until her lights went out before I entered; I took a seat in the living room. I sat there quietly and even though she was in the bedroom, I was still close enough to hear her breathe. The place even had her aroma, and it was heavenly.
I waited until her breathing became steady, then I went into her bedroom. It was really worth the wait, as I stood there beside her bed. Oh, how I loved her scent, and how nicely her blood sounded flowing through her lovely little veins.
As I was watching her sleep, I entered her mind; it was a different world in there, and there was a peacefulness.
But that had to come to an end.
As I took over her mind, she kicked off the covers, showing me her beautiful young naked body (yes, even vampires need love), and I wanted her. I climbed in bed with her and while we were in the act, I took her for all eternity, sexually puncturing her neck. I drank from her until she was on the brink of death then I rolled off of her and cradled her in my arms, and there I slit my own wrist with the nail of my forefinger and let her drink from me.
January 2, 2000
I awoke and there beside me was my lovely Shanna Wong. I found out her name when I was in her mind the night before. She would be hungry when she awoke.
She was such a beautiful Japanese woman, and her skin had this warm yellowish tinge.
She awoke screaming at the top of her lungs.
Calm down, my dear. I said, almost a whisper.
Who the hell are you, and where am I? she asked in a terrified tone.
My name is Gravely. Orion Gravely.
What did you do to me last night?
We made love, my dear Shanna, and we will be lovers forever because, while we were in the act of love, I transformed you into one of the living dead.
What are you talking about? One of the living dead? You mean like a vampire?
Yes, you are the first member of my family of Vampires.
She looked at me, dumbfounded, with her beautiful brown eyes, as if I was crazy.
You must think Im stupid, dont you?
No, my dear.
There are no such thing as a vampires. Theyre only a myth, and if you think Im falling for that, youre crazy as hell! Do you hear me, you stupid idiot? She paused. How do you get out of this fucking room anyway?
Calm down. I will show you how to get out of here, my love, for this you will have to know since this will be your home, as well as mine.
I walked over to the wall, slid a panel open, and pushed a button. A foot away, the wall opened up.
They walked into the other room, she looked around, and when she spotted the light coming from the window she started to laugh.
Theres your proof, sucker. If we were vampires, why are we up during the day?
All the myths you heard are just that. It is a little after six in the evening, and, as you can see, there are black curtains over the windows.
Im going to prove you are nothing but a liar and an old pervert.
She then walked over to the window. Yes, I knew what she was going to do and knew she was too young, even for that little bit of the sun, so I prepared myself. She reached up and took hold of the curtains and pulled them apart; it only took a minute for her flesh to start burning. I then took the curtains away from her and closed them once again.
There came a pounding at the door followed by a hard voice.
Mister Gravely, are you all right, sir? Is there anything I can do?
No, Jerome, everything is fine. My guest just hurt herself a little.
Who is that? Another one of your monsters that you made? Shanna asked.
No, my dear, you are the first of my family of monsters, as you call yourself. Jerome is my personal bodyguard and watches the house while I sleep.
As I was talking, she made her way to a mirror hanging on the far side of the wall and screamed.
I thought vampires didnt have a reflection.
That, my dear, is another myth. We do have a reflection, but what we see are our true selves.
My hairits back to being black. Did you do this to me?
I guess I did. You see, when the transformation is complete, you look how youre supposed to look. That is why the blonde dye came out of your hair.
After I calmed her down a little, we went downstairs. When we reached the first floor, Jerome was looking at us in a strange manner. He then smiled and winked. It was then that I realized what he was thinking.
So did Shanna.
Her face became flushed, and I could feel the intensity in her beautiful young body.
Then she turned on me.
You better damn well tell this dumbass that there is nothing between us, do you hear me?
No, my dear, you see, you will be my wife, and that is something you better get used to.
Jerome just stared at us; I turned to him and dismissed him for the night. After he was gone, I told her that we should, and she agreed that she was feeling hungry. By the time we got ready, it was eight oclock, and when we walked outside, she almost fainted.
I knew why, but she looked a little puzzled.
Its all right, my dear, this is the first time you have been out in the human world since the first part of your metamorphosis.
After I got her under control, we were off to find our dinner. We walked past several nice restaurants and finally arrived at a bar where I sent her a mental command.
You wait in the alley, and I will go and get our dinner.
She obeyed. I went in, looked around, and saw what I was looking for: a woman sitting by her self.
As I approached, she looked up and smiled.
May I sit with you, madam?
She smiled and replied quietly, Only if you buy me a drink.
We sat there talking while she was drinking her bourbon, and I sipped on some red wine, wishing it was her blood going down my throat. After awhile, I decided to leave, that way no one would see us leave together. She agreed to leave ten minutes later.
As Shanna and I were waiting, she asked why I didnt bring it out with me. I told her it would be better if it were delivered.
Finally, the woman came out, as she walked in front of the alley and looked around, I came up behind her and told her to come with me. When I had lured her to the back of the alley, she looked at me then at Shanna.
The scent of alcohol on her breath was strong. Wait a damn minute! I dont do women, so if this is what you wanted, just forget it.
I put my arm around her and replied, No, we dont want you to do us; we are going to do you. As I spoke, I got behind her with my arms around hers then bared my fangs, snapped at her, and punctured her neck.
Shanna watched in horror while I drank from her.
I pushed the woman to Shanna and told her to feed, but she refused and started to puke. I grabbed my victim and finished my meal, and I could taste every drop of the alcohol.. I then began to cover up the true purpose of the killing. I first slit her chest and stomach wide open then emptied the cavity and threw the organs around the alley. By the time I looked up, Shanna was gone.
To be continued...
NEXT ISSUE: "Only the Dying Shall Die..."
And per se a letter column, here are some letters...
This first one is from new MV1 writer, Charles Millhouse. Be sure to check out his upcoming Scarecrow story here in STRANGE TALES:
Paul,
Read issue 50 of Strange Tales.
It has a sense of realism to it. I felt it was really written by a man who was becoming this creature of the night.
I could feel that you have a grasp of vampirism. Are you sure you're not one?
Anyway, I'm looking forward to the next issue.

Next up is a letter from reader Jim Dague:

Keep up the good work, and I look forward to reading the second part.
Thanks for your letters, and Im glad you both liked Strange Tales #50 and hope you enjoy #51 just as much.
