First Charter of the RR&R
RR&R
The RR&R is a society which seeks to promote fellowship and camaraderie amongst its members. It is dedicated to the ideals of curiosity, inquiry, fraternity and community. It seeks to improve the life and well-being of its members by holding fast to the following principles: the world is more interesting than most people imagine, self-discovery is a product of other-discovery, the fun begins where the road ends, and real life can be stranger than fiction.
LAIR
The basic unit of the RR&R is the lair. A lair is a group of RR&R members. All RR&R members will belong to a particular lair. RR&R members may vote and hold office only in their own lair. All RR&R members are free and encouraged to attend meetings of other lairs.
When a lair becomes too large to be able to fulfill its functions, it will split into two lairs. The new lair will be commissioned by the existing lair and will abide by all the practices and customs of the existing lair so that they remain the same throughout the RR&R.
MEMBERSHIP
Males of at least 21 years may be members of a lair of the RR&R. Candidates will be proposed by two active members of that lair and be approved by a unanimous vote of a quorum of members of that lair at any regular meeting.
If a member causes injury to another member, to the lair or to the RR&R, he may be removed by a unanimous vote of his lair. Having been so removed, he may not become a member of another lair.
OFFICERS
A Secretary will handle correspondence and coordinate the activities and finances of the lair. He will be elected by a simple majority for a term of one year. He may be removed at any time by a 2/3 vote.
A General Secretary will coordinate activities amongst the several lairs of the RR&R. He will be elected by a simple majority of RR&R members in all lairs for a term of two years. He may be removed at any time by a 2/3 vote.
VISITORS
As the RR&R should share its brand of zaniness and fellowship with as many men as are interested, visitors will be invited to join meetings of the RR&R. Each member may place one name on the guest list for each meeting.
MEETINGS
RR&R meetings take place quarterly. These consist of an evening of eating and drinking and feature a presentation given by one of the members. All members are encouraged to take an active role in these meetings as such a society as the RR&R cannot consist solely of spectators. Business will be conducted by members before the beginning of the regular meeting so that the banality of administration does not interfere with the fun of the meeting.
AMENDMENTS
Any proposal for amendment of this set of principles will be circulated to the membership one month prior to the meeting at which it is to be voted on. The amendment will be adopted on a two-thirds vote.
BY-LAWS
Such by-laws as are necessary to effect the principles stated herein may be adopted by a simple majority.
QUORUM
To conduct business of the RR&R, a meeting must have a quorum of two-thirds of active members.
