| ASSASSINS If you are reading this, you're probably wondering what Assassins is all about. Assassins is a campus-wide game that was originally invented by students at Cambridge. It is meant to simulate a warlike situation, without actually causing harm to the participants. ASSASSINS RULES: 1. Each participant obtains a pair of socks, which they write their own name on. These must be WHITE athletic or crew socks. 2. At 11:30PM on each night of the game, the participant will receieve a note in their mailbox informing them of who their 'target' is. Your target is not everyone, only the person's name who you are given in your box. The first name will be given at 11:30PM on Friday, April 25th. (We would do it at midnight, but security locks the Post Office after 12AM sometimes - so get your slips as soon as you want. I'd suggest before midnight, or you'll have to wait until the next day.) 3. The participant must then kill (but not REALLY kill) their target. Killing is accomplished when your sock touches any part of your target's body or clothing worn on the target's body. Killing targets gets you points. 4. BUT WAIT. There are some restrictions. You cannot kill anyone who has said the words "I see you" for 10 MINUTES after they say it to you. YOU MAY SAY THESE WORDS TO ANYONE AT ANY TIME WITHOUT PENALTY. 5. THIS MEANS - That though you may see the kill, see a person running at you, sock in hand and screaming, if you do not say "I see you" before the sock touches you, then you are dead. If you high-five someone and they have a sock on their hand, too bad. Stay alert and remember your three new favorite words. IF you say "I see you" the same time you are hit, and you can't tell whether or not you said it before...it goes to the Assassin. You just weren't quick enough. Sorry. 6. SAFE AREAS: You cannot, absolutely under no circumstances, get killed in a safe area. The safe areas are: Tishman, Mailroom, Dewey 18 (Eli Phillips the Umpire's room), and The Dining Hall. Once you leave these areas, you are out of luck. (Stairwells are fair game) Your own room is NOT a safe area! 7. You may not kill anyone who is performing, OR anyone in the audience during the performance. You know, like in a play or concert or critique. This only extends to actual stage time. Intermissions and pre-show are fair game.) While this game does affect life in strenuous ways, we should still attempt to be courteous of affecting the ACADEMIC lives of others directly. IF your target is IN a performance or show, you must wait 3 minutes after their initial stage-time: then you can strike. For example, if your target is in a play, they bow, and go off-stage at the end to the dressing room - you must wait 3 minutes from the moment they step off stage. Confusion? Call me. 8. REPORTING KILLS: Report your kills to the Umpire either verbally or by phone. (If, in the case of traps, you are killed and your assassin is not there to witness it, please report your death to the Umpire. Lying makes this game suck.) IF YOU ARE KILLED, call in to report it (even though your assassin may have already done it) just to keep things on the same page. 9. LISCENSE TO KILL: If you believe you know who your assassin is, you may contact the Umpire and request a Liscense to Kill, which grants you the ability to kill the person, gain some points, and get them off your back. HOWEVER if you incorrectly identify your assassin, you will be penalized by the deduction of points from your score. (See point system) 10. THE TERMINATOR: You are allowed a 48 hour window in which you may kill your target without being hunted by the Terminator. After that 48 hours, you still have to kill your target, but you will be pursued by one of the Terminators, whose job it is to go after you and try to kill you until you kill your outstanding target. The Terminator must obey all of the rules of the game, except he cannot be killed himself (or herself.) 11. ALLIANCES: Form alliances with another assassin (or person) at your own risk. Voluntarily allowing yourself to be killed ruins the game. If the pressure becomes too much and you want out, just tell the Umpire that you are quitting instead. Getting outside help from non-participating students and/or faculty members is allowed, however, they (or you!) may not at any time forcefully restrain your target, nor may they touch your target with your sock. That's your job. NO ONE MAY PHYSICALLY COERCE A TARGET OUT OF A SAFE AREA!!! 12. INNOCENT BYSTANDERS: If your sock strikes anyone who is not your target, you will be penalized a certain number of points. 13 WINNING THE GAME: If you have the most points at the end after everyone has been eliminated (excluding the last Assassin left), then you WIN. NOTE: If you are the last Assassin left alive, you do not automatically win. It's all about the POINTS! |
