was "They've got no proper clothes on!" Yes ladies and gentlemen, that was Karl's first line.('Aint it a beaut?) Karl decided to have a regular childhood and didn't persue acting until he finished high school. Karl attended Victoria University for one year, and then left to persue his career in acting.(And aren't we all glad about that?) He landed many major roles in the theater in Willmington, had a number of guest roles in New Zealand television, and did a couple of films. The most memorable roles to Xena fans are his guest spots on the show. Karl's characters range from the God of Love, to the tyranical Julius Caesar. His first role on Xena was as Maell, in "Altared States." Its original air date was April 22, 1996. The episode is a secular spin to the biblical tale of Abraham and Isaac. In this episode they attribute the command to sacrifice Icus (Isaac) to the jealous brother Maell. In the end, when Maell had issued the command to kill Icus, supposedly Gabby gets to the megaphone in time to issue another command to spare Icus's life. When they are leaving the place, Xena compliments Gabby on acting quickly and imitating "the voice of God" so convincingly. Only to hear Gabby deny ever getting near the megaphone. Nanana-nanana! Spooky no? Ok, no, but rather interesting. On a side note: this was the first day back on set for Lucy after her accident. You can tell in the last scenes that poor Lucy was tired and in pain. Poor Lucy! Cupid first debuted on Hercules:The Legendary Journeys in the episode "Green Eyed Monster." Then on Xena in the episode '"For Him The Bell Tolls" and "A Comedy of Eros." The character Julius Caesar first appeared in "Destiny," originally entitled "Why and Where," and it features flashbacks to how Xena came to be. This was a very key episode, and it was nominated for an Emmy. Then we saw Caesar on "The Deliverer," "The Bitter Suite," "When In Rome," "Render Unto Caesar" (on Herc), "A Good Day," and "The Ides of March." All the eps. Caesar was on were DRAMATIC, nothing but suffering for our girls. Thats why I tell you, we love to hate him! I decided to focus more on Karl's work on Xena and Herules. To me the most memorable, and loved characters are on Xena. So enjoy all things Karl, and Battle on! -Ephany |
