Social Security Benifits
You can click below and go look at the Social Security Online Web Site. You can even start/complete your application right on line. It takes alot of time and patience to do it but it can be done. You can begin the application and then save it till you can get all the stuff they ask for and then pick up where you left off.
YOU WILL HAVE TO HAVE A GOOD PRINTER as you will have to print and sign some of the pages and mail them in.
You might look at the application process on line and then all the required verifications and go prepared to your Social Security office and apply.
Comments About Applying
I have to admit, I was skeptical about having a third party filing for
social security disability for me. I used Allsup, Inc. and they were great
and they succeeded in getting my claim approved on the first go around. The
company I was working for paid the bill so I don't know how their fees are
structured. But if anyone is trying to get a claim approved, they might be
worth a shot. Their website is shown below.

FYI, my input:
Social Security is for long term disabilities, for people that are expected to be unable to work for a year or longer.
If you have your own medical records from your doctor this can speed things up for you, submit copies to Social Security then they don't have to send you to there own doctors unless the information from your doctor is not current.
If you have not heard anything in 120 days you should call and ask for the status of your case and ask who is handling the medical portion of your decision. The first hurdle is the medical portion, then the non-medical (payment information is developed).
You should not give up if you are denied,
There are three levels of appeals, reconsideration level and hearing level. You usually do no need an attorney until you get to the actual hearing level of appeal, so if your case gets overturned at the recondsideration level, you do not need to reimburse the attorney and cases do get overturned on appeal, but if you are denied at the reconsideration (second decison) you still will be given the option of getting an attorney since you can get an attorney at any level.

My advice is to keep trying. I'm told that for initial applications, 50% are accepted, and as many rejected, but a higher percentage are accepted if you apply for reconsideration and, more again, if you go to the 3rd level of "appeal." I wouldn't give up. Although my SSD is measly, it's also a life-saver. Best of luck.
