Robert Fan
It is with the greatest sadness that I have to report the passing of our friend and group member Robert Fan.
Although suspected for quite some time, today I received the news in an email from Rob's sister. Rob passed April 1 of this year.
For those of you that knew Rob, I'm sure you realize what a terrible loss this is. For those new members that did not know him, allow me to tell his story....Bruce
Rob with his sister Willa
Robert Fan was born on August 29, 1976. A resident of Owings Mills, MD.
On February 8, 2001, Rob had his first surgery for a 4th ventricle ependymoma. HE WAS ONE OF US. On July the first of that year, Rob underwent Stereotactic Radiation.
He had another surgery on October 16, 2002. At this time, Rob underwent 8 lumbar punctures - an unbelievably painful procedure. He also experienced an infection after the surgery due to leaking of spinal fluid from the back of his head.
Rob underwent a third surgery in early December, 2003. In January, 2004, Rob was transferred to another hospital where he stayed until he received his angel wings on April 1, 2004.
I personally will never forget him. Even though he went through more than most of us can even imagine, he always supported others in the group. He always thought of others. Rob was quite an active member, giving much more than he took.
What a shame it is to lose such a special person. But then, how much better we are for knowing him.
Should you wish to send condolences, email Willa (Rob's sister) at
