There are 3,5 thousand students studying at the Academy now, 400 international
students from 23 foreign countries are among them. One can find the Stomatological
and Medical Faculties, the Preparatory Department for international students training,
the Post-graduate Faculty and the preparatory training course here. There is a college
which is included in the UMSA structure, preparing bachelors and junior specialists. The
training is carried auf at 51 chairs of the Academy, 9 of them being the leading basic in
Ukraine. Clinical and consulting work is performed at 35 clinical chairs of the Academy,
they being located at the best clinics, hospitals and the city medical establishments of
Poltava.

At present the scientific potential of the UMSA is presented by 90 Doctor of Medical
Science, 314 Candidates of Science, 70 professors, 145 assistant professors, 2 winners
of the Ukrainian State Prize, 8 honored physicians of Ukraine. During the last decade
great changes have taken place at the Academy, they giving the Academy a possibility
to have a new competitive level in preparing specialists, to use the latest technologies in
studies. The evidence of this can be proved by two awards of the academy: two silver
and one bronze medals of the international exhibitions of educational establishments
“Modern Education in Ukraine – 2001, 2002, 2004” . In dune 2003 the Academy took
part in the rating of the Ukrainian Medical Stomatological Academy has awarded a
Diploma of the higher educational establishments' rating for its active work in improving
the quality of modern education. In the nomination “The Third Millennium Quality” the
Academy was awarded a silver medal and the Diploma of the International Academic
Rating of popularity named “Golden Fortune”. From 1999 fill 2005 the Academy issued
more than 400 textbooks in different scientific topics. Here seven scientific schools have
been formed, they are at work now: operative surgery and topographical anatomy,
normal physiology, oral surgery, biological chemistry, pathological anatomy,
conservative dentistry, clinical and experimental pharmacology. Only during the last
year 80 patents of Ukraine and Russia were got.

The training process is carried out by talented scholars and educators who have special education
and experience in working with foreign citizens at the primary stages of their training. Having
graduated from the Academy international students get an international standard diploma.

In 1997the dean's office organized a preparatory training course for foreign students. The
students of this course lean Russian, Science Language, and Basics, of Mathematics, Physics,
Biology, Informatics, and Ethnology. In the whole, the work of the preparatory training course is
aimed at the foreign citizen adaptation to living and studying in Ukraine and learning the culture
and traditions of the Ukrainian people as well.

Further post-diploma education has become a grooving tendency among the graduates of the
Academy, they studying at clinical post-graduate (residency) and postgraduates hip courses. At
present 53 foreigners – graduates of the medical and stomatological faculties – undergo residency
as well as professional probation at different chairs. More and more foreigners, who have
completed the clinical postgraduate course, would like to continue their education at the
postgraduates hip.



			The *Ukrainian Medical Stomatological Academy* is the leading higher educational establishment in training both physicians and dentists. The Academy originates from the odontological faculty of the Kharkov Medical Academy established in 1921 which became the first specialized educational institution and metrological centre of stomatological education in Ukraine. In 1967 the institute moved to the city of Poltava and was named as the Poltava Medical Stomatological Institute. In 1994 the Poltava medical Stomatological Institute got the highest Level IV accreditation and the name of the Ukrainian Medical Stomatological Academy. In 2004 the Level IV accreditation was confirmed. *The Academy offers professional programs for flu following*:

	In order to carry out the program “Family Doctor” 229 physicians have been prepared. 639 doctor and interns have been trained and got their postgraduate training at the chair of post- diploma education in pediatrics, general practice in family medicine, they working in medico- preventive establishments now. Being a member of the UNO and UNESKO, Ukraine takes an active part in co international programs in the sphere of the higher education. The UMSA renders assistance to foreign states in preparing their national medical specialists as well. To improve Ache medical course for international students the UMSA organized preparatory department for foreigners in 1992. Now 395 citizens of 23 countries of the world (Palestine, Iraq, Iran, Syria, Morocco, Algeria, Jordan, Pakistan, Libya, Russia, Turkmenistan and others) study at the Academy. They are guaranteed all the rights and liberties assumed by the Ukrainian legislation. The training of foreign citizens is carried out in accordance with the same syllabuses and curricula of the Ministry of Education and Science and the MHS of Ukraine International students are equal in their rights with Ukrainian students to use the lecture rooms, classrooms, reading halls and libraries sport halls and other premises for the cultural, religious arrangements and friendly association meetings.
